Red as love, red as the evening
Red is the color of life, of love, of signals. In our color world Red, you will find bold red wines, red apple juices, tomatoes from Puglia, raspberry spreads, hot paprika, pomegranate chocolate, and chili olive oil – all in vibrant red.
Red is the strongest, warmest signal color in the spectrum. It stands for life, love, passion, and fire. When you open our Red category, we roll out the red carpet for you – and the color runs like a common thread through our entire assortment, from the aperitif to the final praline.
Red, the warmest of all colors
Red can do anything. Red can be a love letter or a stop sign, can be kitchen or church, heart or hint. In color psychology, it is the color that raises blood pressure – and appetite.
The Romans already had red robes for their gods, and the red carpet for guests of honor comes from ancient tragedy. In everyday life, red is the color of the tomato, the cherry, the pomegranate – and, if we’re being honest, first love.
For us, red is for all those moments that need an accent: a Valentine's Day evening, a Sunday roast, a bottle of wine for a birthday. Red is for people who don't want to hold back.
Over twenty red favorites from eight countries
Our red world brings together specialties from France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Denmark, South Tyrol, Germany, and the USA – all in vibrant red.
From Italy, San Marzano tomatoes from Campania, Giuseppe Giusti’s 3 Medaglie d’Oro balsamic vinegar, and Filotea fettuccine pasta. From France, La Quiberonnaise vintage sardines and La Mortuacienne cola lemonade – colas existed long before Coca-Cola, and this one tastes of spices instead of sugar.
From South Tyrol, Kohl mountain apple juice Rouge; from Austria, Stekovics tomato chutney; from Spain, Azada olive oil with chili. From Germany, Helmut red vermouth and Gorilla Kaffee Superbar Crema in red packaging – a strong espresso from Berlin.
Which red at which hour?
Red has many temperatures: the cool blood-red, the warm cherry-red, the spicy chili-red, the velvety pomegranate-red.
For breakfast, we like the fruity red: Alpe Praga red currant, raspberry fruit spread, a spoonful of Lang wine vinegar cherry dressing in yogurt. For lunch, the spicy red: hot paprika by Ingo Holland on cream cheese, a dash of chili olive oil over the pasta.
For the evening, the velvety red: a glass of red vermouth on the rocks, an olive in the glass. Or the Berger premium dark chocolate with pomegranate with an espresso – a chocolate that is intense yet quiet. That is exactly how we see it, too.
Producers with a passion for red
Eight manufactories define our red world – each with its own story about red.
Erich Stekovics in the Seewinkel region of Burgenland grows over three thousand varieties of tomatoes, from deep red cherry tomatoes to striped oxhearts. "Each variety has its own flavor, its own place, its own day," as Erich emphasizes. His tomato chutney is a showcase of this diversity. The Kohl family in Unterinn on the Ritten plateau has been pressing apple juice for six generations. "Not all apples are created equal," says Thomas Kohl, the charming apple juice affineur, who uses the mountain apple juice Rouge to create a cuvée of red-skinned mountain apples that is fruity, tart, and varietal.
Ingo Holland in Klingenberg, Lower Franconia, is both a Michelin-starred chef and a spice merchant. His hot paprika is slowly roasted from Spanish pimientos. "A spice is not a powder, but a craft," says Ingo. The Giusti family from Modena provides the Giuseppe Giusti 3 Medaglie d’Oro balsamic vinegar, family-owned since 1605; sweet, dense, and velvety.
Red for Sunday roasts and candlelit dinners
Red is the color of festive meals. The Sunday roast, the birthday table, the candlelit dinner – everything breathes red.
For a candlelit dinner, we recommend the following trio: cola lemonade with gin as an aperitif, Stonewall Kitchen Honey Barbecue Sauce for the grilled meat, and for dessert, a Bonnat Noir 100% cocoa – no added sugar, just pure cocoa. Together, the three of them make an evening.
For the Sunday roast: a glass of Prisecco red fruity, a slice of roast, and pasta from the Schaut noodle heart – red, heart-shaped noodles that Kerstin Krause likes to send to couples in love. Simply delicious.
Red for gifting, for those who wear red
A red crate is a love letter in paper form. We’ll put together a red box for you: Prisecco red fruity, tomato chutney, Berger premium pomegranate chocolate, and ketchup with Piment d’Espelette – a ketchup that can do more than just be red.
For an evening for two, we recommend the La belle-iloise sardines à la Luzienne in the gold and red tin, a glass of Helmut red vermouth, a slice of bread, and an hour of time.
Take a look at our other color worlds too – red is the loudest, nine other colors are waiting quietly beside it.
