Velvety Cuvée Rouge from the Nahe, berry-forward and dry

The 2023 Cuvée Rouge Feuer & Flamme by Anette Closheim is a dry red wine from the Nahe region made from Pinot Noir, Merlot, and St. Laurent. Not a heavy hitter, but a velvety companion for pizza, pasta, and cozy evenings.

Cuvée Rouge is the name of this red Feuer & Flamme from Anette Closheim, a dry red wine blend from the Nahe made from three grape varieties. Pinot Noir provides the fruit, St. Laurent the dark berry notes, and Merlot the soft fullness. At 13% ABV, it is juicy, round, and accessible—a red wine with no airs and graces, just the way Anette likes it best. Open a bottle, that’s all you need.

Feuer & Flamme (Fire & Flame) is the name, cozy is the intent; this red doesn't want to cause headaches, it simply wants to taste good. Anette runs the family winery in Langenlonsheim in the fourth generation and has been crafting clear, modern wines from the Nahe since 2008 that fit into everyday life while still having character.

Blackberry, cherry, and a touch of oak

Deep red in the glass, with ripe blackberry, cherry, and plum on the nose, accompanied by a delicate spice that comes from the wooden barrel.

On the palate, the Cuvée Rouge is juicy, velvety, and fruity, with the tannin finely integrated and the acidity of 4.9 g/l keeping it fresh. Berry-forward and uncomplicated, it drinks easily without ever feeling heavy—a red for that second glass and good conversation.

The three grape varieties complement each other like a well-rehearsed trio; each contributes what the other needs, resulting in a harmonious, round whole that leaves you wanting more.

The companion for pasta, the grill, and the sofa

A dry, velvety red wine like this goes with almost any savory dish—pasta, pizza, grilled foods, or a cozy movie night on the sofa. It doesn't make a big fuss; it's simply there when you need it.

It belongs with lasagna, lamb from the grill, or a piece of aged hard cheese. Served at 14 to 16 degrees, it shows off all its fruit. If you prefer something lighter, try the fruity Rosé Jubel & Trubel, or for a white counterpart, the dry Cuvée Blanc.

Aged in wooden barrels, from the Nahe

After the harvest, the fully ripe grapes undergo mash heating and traditional maceration; the wine then rests in large wooden barrels to mellow and round out.

Malolactic fermentation converts the sharp malic acid into soft lactic acid, giving the red wine its round, accessible character. Anette Closheim vinifies vegan, and with around 180 soil variations over just 4,200 hectares, the Nahe region gives every wine its own unique minerality. Anette took over the winery in 2008 after several years in international marketing for whisky and vodka.

Three stars in Vinum and Eichelmann, three Fs in Feinschmecker—the wines of the Nahe have found a good home here. Browse through all wines by Anette Closheim, from fresh whites to velvety reds. Get fired up yourself—this uncomplicated red makes it truly easy.
