The Artichoke Elixir is a powerful, finely balanced digestif based on regional artichokes with exquisite bitter herbs, roots, and blossoms, including gentian root, centaury, cardamom, ginger root, nutmeg, zedoary root, cinchona bark, bitter orange peel, juniper berries, camphor, lavender, cinnamon bark, citronella, valerian root, angelica root, cloves, galangal rootstock, and a hint of saffron.

The Jagla family of apothecaries refined a 15th-century monastery pharmacy recipe over decades. The Pharmacopoea Germanica (the old German Pharmacopoeia) still serves as the basis for individual production steps and is still prepared today in the family pharmacy in Wuppertal.
