When opened, it reveals a scene: on a black background lie an envelope with a wax seal, a sliced cacao fruit, two red cherries on a branch, a red-and-white candy cane, a pine cone, and a copper bell, with the numbered gold doors in between. Because it stands instead of lying flat, it fits on a sideboard or in the middle of a table, changing the room's appearance every day.

The fruits are gently dried before being added to the balls, ensuring scent and colour are preserved.

These are contrasted by dark and savoury tones: caramel with salted butter, cocoa nibs, honey, salmiak, sea salt, and vanilla. Sweet, salty, and spicy notes can be waiting behind any door.

The tin shape that this calendar adopts has remained the brand's trademark—the same silhouette as the jars on the shelf, just in black and capable of being opened. Anyone who has seen it once will recognise it again from two metres away.

At Lakrids, the cores are cooked with rice starch and without wheat flour, which is why the entire contents remain gluten-free.
