Selection Box Spring by Lakrids by Bülow for the Easter Table

The Selection Box Spring by Lakrids by Bülow combines eight varieties of chocolate-coated liquorice in 350 grams behind eight round windows. The selection ranges from A – The Original to LÆMON, and it only joins the assortment as part of the spring collection around Easter.

The Selection Box Spring is the large spring box from Lakrids by Bülow of Denmark. It contains five letters from the annual range—A, B, C, D, and F—plus three varieties that are only available in the spring. They are called ÆGG Crispy Caramel, Lime Crackle, and LÆMON, with LÆMON found in the shop under the name LEMON.

The lid blooms before the garden

The flat, dark cardboard box features a print of daffodils and pussy willows, with a bee flying between golden letters.

Giving this box in March is like placing spring on someone's table while there is still nothing to be seen outside. Eight round windows reveal the colors even before you open it. No paper or ribbon is needed, and the box sits open in the middle of the Easter table as everyone takes turns reaching in.

From dusty brown to lemon yellow

The color sequence behind the windows runs from dusty brown to cream and two shades of green, finishing with a vibrant yellow.

The backbone is formed by the letters from the annual range: A with milk chocolate and liquorice powder, B with passion fruit, C with a red core under a green shell, D with salted caramel, and F with dark chocolate and coarse sea salt. Joining them are the three spring guests: ÆGG Crispy Caramel with blonde Dulce chocolate, Lime Crackle with lime, and LÆMON with lemon. Sweet, sour, salty, citric – enough scope to discover preferences you didn't know you had.

How a summer guest became a permanent letter

Before a new variety goes into production, it is tasted by the Lakrids Lovers panel, and only then does Johan Bülow approve the recipe.

If it passes, it hits the market as a limited edition. If the demand remains high, the variety is promoted to the Hall of Fame and becomes part of the permanent range. This is exactly the path taken by C – Sour Strawberry, which started as a summer guest and is now a fixed part of the alphabet.

Five of the eight varieties belong to the annual range, including A – The Original with milk chocolate and C – Sour Strawberry with its red core. The remaining three only run in the spring: ÆGG Crispy Caramel, Lime Crackle, and LÆMON, which is listed in the shop as LEMON.

Sweet, sour, and salty are so close together here that everyone starts tasting as soon as the lid is off. The box is the natural companion for Easter coffee. It is enough for a whole group, even after two varieties have long since become everyone’s favorites.

Lakrids cooks all cores with rice flour instead of wheat, so the balls remain gluten-free and contain no gelatin. After Easter, the spring collection disappears, and those looking for the box will have to wait until next year.
