Grappa gift set with glasses, eighteen moons in blue

The Grappa gift set with glasses contains the Le Diciotto Lune Grappa Stravecchia by Marzadro in a 500 ml bottle and two glasses, packaged in a blue gift box. The grappa is aged for 18 months in barrels made of cherry, ash, oak, and locust wood and has an ABV of 41%.

The Grappa gift set with glasses is the tasting set from Distilleria Marzadro: a 500 ml bottle of Le Diciotto Lune, plus two glasses, all in a dark blue box with crescent moons. The name says it all – Diciotto Lune means eighteen moons, which is exactly how long this Grappa Stravecchia is aged before it is bottled.

In the glass, the Diciotto Lune has a warm amber tone; on the palate, it is silky, velvety, and spicy. On the nose, it remains intense and ethereal without becoming harsh. It is a grappa for lingering, as the producer itself says: one for meditation.

What's in the box

A bottle, two glasses, and – according to the print – an invitation to the distillery for five people.

The glasses make the bottle a gift that is ready to use immediately: whoever receives it doesn't have to look for something to pour the grappa into. You are giving both the bottle and the evening itself. And for those vacationing near Lake Garda, the invitation can actually be redeemed: the distillery is located in Nogaredo in the Adige Valley, not far from the lake, and welcomes visitors. Distillation is still carried out there just as Sabina Marzadro began in 1949, today by Andrea, Anna, and Stefano, the children of her brother Attilio.

The blue box with the crescent moons echoes the name: eighteen moons, eighteen months in the barrel. This makes the packaging a gift in itself.

Five pomaces, four woods

Diciotto Lune is made from the pomace of five Trentino grape varieties.

Marzemino, Teroldego, Merlot, Muscat, and Chardonnay are brought to the distillery, heated in a water bath, and pass through steam-powered copper stills – a gentle process that preserves the brandy's finesse. Only the heart of the distillate is used.

Then comes the real work: the grappa is aged for 18 months in small barrels made of cherry, ash, oak, and locust wood. Each of these woods contributes something different – fragrance, aroma, color, taste – and the master distiller monitors the aging process until the wood and the grappa are in balance. This blend creates the profile for which this grappa was named best aged grappa at the 2016 World Grappa Awards.

Who this set is for

For anyone who wants to give a grappa as a gift without knowing whether the recipient has the right glasses.

An aged grappa is best displayed in a glass that tapers at the top to concentrate the aromas. That is exactly why this set makes sense: it provides both together. It is a perfect choice for hosts who like to linger after a meal – the Diciotto Lune is made specifically for that.

If you are looking for the large bottle, you can find the Diciotto Lune in a 700 ml size. Other sets can be found in the Marzadro gift sets, and the entire grappa range is under Marzadro Grappa.

Cold seals what the wood has opened

The Diciotto Lune belongs in the glass at room temperature, not chilled – cold seals off the aromas that took 18 months in the wood to develop. Pour one to two centiliters into the glass, let it sit for a moment, then smell, then drink. It pairs naturally with dark chocolate or an espresso; it is too precious to use for cooking. The two glasses in the set have the exact shape that an aged grappa needs.

Distilleria Marzadro
