Pinot Blanc from the Palatinate by Oliver Zeter

Pinot Blanc from Oliver Zeter is a round, dry white wine from south-facing loess and loam soils in the Southern Palatinate. After fermentation, it is left on its fine lees for a while, which gives it a full, cohesive core.

Pinot Blanc 2024 is a white wine from Oliver Zeter in the Palatinate, aged on the fine lees and fermented in stainless steel tanks and large wooden barrels. At 12.5% vol, it has enough body for a dinner, and its fruit is reminiscent of pear, apple, and white flowers.

Juicy pear, apple, and white flowers

In the glass, this Pinot Blanc from the Palatinate smells of juicy pear and fresh apple, overlaid with white flowers and an exotic touch reminiscent of passion fruit. The fruits return on the tongue, and a subtle minerality provides them with structure, making the wine feel both fresh and substantial.

Its true strength lies in the middle of the sip, as this is where the effect of the time on the lees becomes apparent. The wine feels round and dense, yet remains as clear and straightforward as the winery expects from its Pinot Blancs. Anyone familiar with this grape variety as being rather light and fleeting will discover its more mature side here.

Fine lees, time, and a large wooden barrel

The vines for this Pinot Blanc from the Palatinate are located in Edenkoben, Rhodt, and Appenhofen on south-facing loess and loam soils with limestone underneath. In summer, excess grapes are removed by hand and the foliage canopy is managed so that the remaining berries can gather more strength and aroma.

In the cellar, the must ferments at a consistent temperature and very slowly to preserve the fruit, partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in large wooden barrels. Afterwards, the young wine is left to rest on its fine lees, a process known in French as sur lie. At the winery, this aging process is considered an essential part of its character. "The lees are the mother of the wine," goes an old cellar adage there.

The fine yeast cells give the wine fullness and structure over the months, while its freshness is preserved. It is bottled unfined and only lightly filtered so that as much of this depth as possible ends up in the bottle.

Flammkuchen, pumpkin risotto, and crispy chicken

A Flammkuchen with onions and bacon, a pumpkin risotto, or crispy roast chicken with lemon pair well with it, because its round core absorbs the buttery and roasted notes. Its freshness balances this out, ensuring that even a second piece of Flammkuchen feels light. It is just as happy accompanying a plate of veal bratwurst and potato salad.

Taken out of the refrigerator and left for a few minutes at room temperature, at about 10 to 12 degrees Celsius, it shows its fruit most clearly. Because the bottle has a screw cap, any leftovers can be easily saved for the next day.

The younger vintage is available in our shop as Pinot Blanc 2025 and comes from the same vineyards. You can find the grey sibling of this variety in the Pinot Gris 2025 from Oliver Zeter. Further dry white wines from our range can be found in the white wine category.
