Sardines with bell pepper in olive oil, mildly spiced
The sardines with bell pepper in olive oil from A Banca da Sardinha bring a pinch of red bell pepper to the classic oil-packed sardine. Not a fiery kick, but a mild, slightly sweet seasoning that gives the fish a warm color and depth.
Sardines with bell pepper in olive oil from A Banca da Sardinha are the mildest spiced variety in the range: 70 percent sardine fillet, plus olive oil and red bell pepper. Unlike the Malagueta chili version, there is no heat left here, only the warm sweetness of the bell pepper.
Tender, sweet, velvety
The red bell pepper infuses into the olive oil during the maturation period and turns it slightly reddish, without coating the fish with heat. Tender, sweet, velvety—that's how this tin reveals itself from the very first spoonful, an intermediate step between the pure classic version and the brand's spicier varieties.
With 13.2 g of fat per 100 g, it is right in the middle of the range, neither particularly lean nor particularly rich. You can enjoy it cold straight from the tin in a salad, warm on a pizza, or in a casserole with potatoes, where the bell pepper adds its color to the dish.
If you prefer it completely pure, then go for the classic sardines in olive oil; if you are looking for real heat, try the sardines with Malagueta chili from the same producer. This bell pepper version remains the most colorful, but also the mildest seasoning in the entire range.
Pre-cooked, then marinated with bell pepper
As with all A Banca da Sardinha varieties, the sardines are freshly caught off the Portuguese Atlantic coast, cleaned by hand, and pre-cooked using the traditional method before being placed in the tin with olive oil and red bell pepper.
Tinned by hand and wrapped by hand in the attractive colorful paper, each tin only leaves the factory after several manual processing steps. They are caught using purse seine fishing, certified according to the MSC standard.
For food safety, Mediterran Food & Beverage also relies on clear, documented standards so that you can rely on every tin.
One of many recipes from Lisbon
Behind A Banca da Sardinha is the Lisbon-based company Mediterran Food & Beverage, which has managed the brand since 2007 and expanded its product range to include many recipes, from pure to spicy. We carry almost all of them—this is the most colorful, but at the same time one of the milder seasonings.
It is precisely this range between mild and fiery that has brought the brand beyond Portugal to England, the USA, and to us here in Germany, where it has long had dedicated fans in the gourmet scene, including among those who are only slowly approaching spicier varieties.
Anyone who would like to try the entire A Banca da Sardinha range will find mild, smoked, and spicy varieties side by side with us, in addition to other sardines from Portugal from other manufacturers. Simply open and enjoy, preferably with crusty bread and a glass of white wine.
