Dry Sauvignon Blanc savvy from the Nahe

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc savvy by Anette Closheim is a dry, expressively aromatic white wine from the Nahe region. Grassy freshness, crisp fruit—a wine more typical of New Zealand or the Loire.

Sauvignon Blanc is what Anette Closheim only calls her savvy in the subtitle; the wine itself is a dry white wine from the Nahe with green, expressive aromatics. Gooseberry, cassis, grapefruit, and elderflower jump out of the glass, accompanied by cool minerality from the loam and loess soils. At 12% vol., it remains crisp, fresh, and lively—a wine that is simply a joy to drink.

savvy is what Anette calls her white wine, short and cheeky, just like the wine itself. She manages her winery in Langenlonsheim in the fourth generation and has been producing clear, modern wines from the Nahe since 2008 that play with common expectations. The savvy shows that even a German Sauvignon Blanc can have great class, and at a fair price.

Gooseberry, cassis, and green freshness

On the nose, gooseberry, cassis, and grapefruit, plus elderflower and a green, almost grassy note that is so typical of this grape variety. The scent alone wakes you up and makes you crave the first sip.

On the palate, the savvy is crisp, fresh, mineral, and dry, with a vibrant acidity of 6.6 g/l. Cool and clear, carried by the loam-loess soils, it remains taut until the very last sip and makes you immediately want another glass.

Early harvesting keeps the aromas cool and green, while the minerality gives the wine depth. This results in a white wine that is both tense and drinkable, never loud, yet with plenty to say.

The fresh companion for light cuisine

A dry Sauvignon Blanc like this loves light, fresh dishes, fish, seafood, goat cheese, or crisp leaf salads. It brings exactly the freshness to the plate that such dishes need. Pour yourself a glass as an aperitif, and let the evening begin.

It goes particularly well with prawns with ginger, goat cheese with leaf salad, or grilled fish, served chilled at 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. If you prefer something rounder, try the dry Cuvée Blanc, or classically the Riesling mit Freunden.

A little diva from the Nahe

This grape variety is a bit of a diva; it places high demands on soil and location and is rare to find in the Nahe region, making it all the more wonderful that Anette gives it a stage here.

Sauvignon Blanc grew in Germany over a hundred years ago, but after a ban in the 1930s, its comeback took a long time. Anette dares to grow it anyway—a worthwhile venture, as she believes. After eight hours of maceration, she ferments the grapes in stainless steel and ages them reductively, protected from oxygen, which keeps the aromatics clear and fresh.

Three stars in Vinum and Eichelmann, three F's in Feinschmecker—the winery collects recognition as a matter of course. You can find more from the Nahe in all wines by Anette Closheim. Pure drinking pleasure, from the first to the last bottle.
