Boneless Sardines in Tomato Sauce from Portugal

Briosa Gourmet's sardines in tomato sauce are tender sardine fillets from Portugal, skinless and boneless, preserved in a fruity tomato sauce. No tedious deboning, just a ready-to-eat treat for bread, pasta, and quick meals.

The sardines in tomato sauce from Briosa Gourmet are premium sardines from Portugal, processed by hand and stripped of skin and bones. Preserved in a fruity tomato sauce, they remain aromatic in flavor and pleasantly tender in texture. Enjoying the full flavor of sardines has never been easier, with no need for picking or poking.

Fruity, tender, and completely boneless

The sardine fillets are succulent, fruity, and tender, completely free of skin and bones, and coated in a mild tomato sauce.

The tomato adds a gentle sweetness and acidity that beautifully rounds off the bold sardine flavor. There’s no harsh fishy aftertaste, no annoying sorting—just soft fillets in red sauce. One spoonful is all it takes to have fish and sauce combined. This is the taste of the south: simple and well-balanced. The sauce isn't just a side; it belongs with the fish like the sea belongs to the harbor.

Because the skin and bones have already been removed, these sardines are perfect for children and anyone who likes things simple. Open, serve, and enjoy. No tools, no kitchen mess—just pure enjoyment.

On bread, in pasta, in salad

Spread the sardines in tomato sauce over fresh bread, including the sauce—not a drop goes to waste.

For a quick pasta dish: toss the fillets and tomato sauce over hot spaghetti, add a squeeze of lemon and some parsley, and lunch is ready in ten minutes. In a salad, they pair well with white beans, onions, and eggs. To round out your selection of tinned fish, place them alongside the classic sardines in olive oil and the refined sardines with lemon.

They are also a quick option on toasted bread with a little cream cheese and a basil leaf. It’s a bruschetta topping that satisfies and tastes of the sea.

For guests, place the fillets and sauce in a small pan, warm them briefly, and serve with crusty white bread for dipping. A dinner that tastes like a vacation and is ready in minutes.

Hand-selected in Figueira da Foz

Briosa Gourmet is a brand from A Briosa, which has been based at the fishing port of Figueira da Foz for over 30 years, founded in 1991 by António Faustino on the Portuguese Atlantic coast.

Fish arrives fresh at the port of Cabedelo without long travel times. Hardworking hands clean the sardines, remove the skin and bones, and nestle the fillets into fruity tomato sauce before the tins are carefully preserved using steam. Up to 60,000 tins are produced in a single day, each one wrapped by hand in paper featuring an azulejo pattern. Sardines, mackerel, and tuna arrive fresh daily, each recipe with its own unique signature.

We have sourced Briosa Gourmet for many years through the company Conservas Portugal Norte, founded in 1912 in Matosinhos, which has been cultivating the tradition of Portuguese tinned fish for over 100 years. The classic brand Porthos also comes from this same house. Browse for more sardines from Portugal.
