The delicate nutty aroma of peanut oil surprisingly pairs wonderfully with Atlantic sardines. For a long time, it was a tradition in Brittany to preserve sardines in peanut oil. It was only much later, when Mediterranean cuisine became popular, that people started preserving sardines in olive oil. In any case, the nutty oil harmoniously combines with the fat of the vintage sardines and, with maturation, becomes a true explosion of flavor.

Vintage Sardines in Colorful Sardine Tins

La Quiberonnaise's vintage sardines are not only a taste sensation, their colorful tins make them unique. The red sardine tin with olive oil, as well as the famous yellow tin, where the sardines are preserved in peanut oil, are the trademark of La Quiberonnaise. The vintage sardines are traditionally processed by hand at La Quiberonnaise in the fishing port of the Quiberon peninsula in Brittany, and have been since 1921. Freshly caught fish is cleaned and prepared by hand, then placed in fish cans and preserved with olive oil. With 100 years of experience, the grandchildren of the founder Henriette Jourdan, Bernard and Thierry, now run the family business and, like their grandmother, give the Breton vintage sardines time to mature.
