The history of the Le Jacquard Français company dates back to 1861, when Benjamin Baer opened a fabric shop in Gérardmer in the French Vosges. In 1928, his successors, the Nathan Lévy weaving mill, expanded the business with a bleachery, as white linens were extremely popular at that time. In 1968, the company was taken over by the ELIS Group, which acquired more than 50 looms for weaving Jacquard fabrics and created the Le Jacquard Français brand.
