Advent calendar with chocolate from Bologna

The Majani advent calendar is filled with a mixture of Cremino, Tortellino, chocolate figures, and pralines, all produced in-house in Bologna. This is not a calendar filled with hollow figures, but 205 grams of confectionery from a company that has been making chocolate since 1796.

The advent calendar with chocolate from Majani reveals a different piece from their own confectionery workshop behind every door. Inside are the four-layer Cremino, milk and dark chocolate figures, as well as the Tortellino with pistachio, cocoa, and milk fillings. 205 grams are distributed over the 24 days, and the package measures 28 by 38 centimeters.

The calendar features a nutcracker and a dancer against a deep red background, with the numbers scattered across the entire motif. Behind the doors, the shapes vary daily—sometimes a cube, sometimes a figure, sometimes a filled bite. Nutty, creamy, and varied.

Cremino, Tortellino, and figures

The mixture comes entirely from their own house, and you can tell by the selection, as these are the brand's classics, just in a smaller format.

The Cremino is the four-layered nougat bite that Majani invented in 1911 for the launch of the Fiat Tipo 4 and has been producing unchanged ever since. The Tortellino bears the name of the Bolognese pasta and comes here with three fillings: pistachio, cocoa, and milk, joined by figures and pralines made of milk and dark chocolate. Pistachio paste and hazelnuts are high up on the ingredient list; palm oil is nowhere to be found.

Twenty-four days until Christmas

A calendar with 205 grams spread over 24 doors provides a proper piece each day rather than just a hint, and that is where it differs from the thin calendars on supermarket shelves.

Its format of 28 by 38 centimeters requires a free wall or a dresser, but the motif is well worth the space. As a gift, it should be sent early, as it needs to arrive before the first of December, and the delivery from Italy takes time. Anyone wishing to get to know the individual treats better can find them in the Christmas box with ten Cremino.

Until the first of December, the calendar should be kept in a cool, dark place. It likes direct heating air just as little as bright sunshine at the window. Between 15 and 18 degrees, the chocolate remains shiny and the fillings retain their creaminess. A cool hallway closet is usually better for this than a warm kitchen. If you are giving the calendar as a gift, it is best to provide this advice along with it.

Since 1796 in Bologna

Majani opened in 1796 next to the Basilica di San Petronio as a "Laboratorio delle Cose Dolci" and is thus considered Italy's first chocolate factory; nine generations later, the company is still family-owned.

In 1832, the Scorza—the country's first solid chocolate—was created there, and in 1878 Majani was appointed a purveyor to the House of Savoy. To this day, the cocoa is processed from the raw bean, a path taken by very few manufacturers of this size. The factory is located in Valsamoggia near Bologna, while the historic shop on Via de' Carbonesi has existed since 1830.

You can find the entire range under Majani Chocolate, and other calendars under Advent Calendars. Twenty-four doors, two hundred years of practice.

Majani Schokolade
