Buckels Olive – Breakfast or Snack Knife

The Windmühlenmesser Buckels is a breakfast or snack knife from Robert Herder in Solingen with an olive wood handle. Born from Germany's rural tradition, this knife, with its special blade shape, has been produced by Windmühlenmesser for over 140 years, unchanged, according to the "Solingen Thin Grinding" principle.

The Buckels blade, also known as the old German table knife, shows its independent character with its unmistakable shape, characterized by its special tasks of cutting and spreading. It is wide for good cutting, sharp so that you don't need another knife even for hard sausage, and with its round tip, a valuable commodity like butter can be spread sparingly and thinly. Its smooth, thin grind cuts bread and especially rolls without leaving unwanted crumb clumps in the middle. It does not need a serrated edge. The blade is made of stainless steel. Like all classic Windmühlenmesser, the Buckels also has a beautiful wooden handle that fits comfortably in the hand, here made of olive wood. A sharp all-rounder for the kitchen and the table.

Robert Herder – Stainless Blade and Olive Wood Handle

The blade of the Buckels snack knife is made of a stainless chrome-molybdenum-vanadium steel. This Windmühlenmesser is still very finely and thinly ground using the Solingen thin grind and is "blue-polished" by hand by true masters. A real rarity and one of the best blue-polished knives from the Herder manufactory. You can sharpen this knife with a diamond sharpening steel or a whetstone.

The handle is handcrafted from olive wood, finely ground by master craftsmen, freely shaped, polished, and oiled. In the Mediterranean region, with its 6000-year history, the olive tree is considered the king of all trees. The wood of this Mediterranean tree is hard, has a beautifully lively grain, and a play of colors from light yellow to golden light brown. True to its nature, the wood has a high oil content. For this reason, it is very water-resistant and very well suited as a handle material.

The wood is only oiled and not chemically sealed. This makes it food-safe and open-pored. After the first contact with water, it becomes a little rougher and thus more slip-resistant. The olive handle is characterized by a warm feel, natural grip, and an individual grain. Care for the handle regularly with wood care oil, and it will bring you joy for a long time. The knife is not suitable for the dishwasher.
