Buckels Plum – Breakfast or Snack Knife

The Windmühlenmesser Buckels is a breakfast or snack knife from Robert Herder in Solingen with a plum wood handle. Born from Germany's rural tradition, this knife with its special blade shape has been produced unchanged at Windmühlenmesser for over 140 years according to the principle of "Solingen Thin-Grinding."

The Buckels blade, also known as the old German table knife, shows its independent character with its distinctive shape, marked by its special tasks, namely having to cut and spread. It is wide for good cutting guidance, sharp so that no other knife is needed even for hard sausage, and with its round tip, a valuable commodity like butter can be spread sparingly and thinly. Its smooth thin-grind cuts bread and especially rolls without leaving unwanted crumb clumps in the middle. It does not need a serrated edge. The blade is made of stainless steel. Like all classic Windmühlenmesser, it has a beautiful wooden handle that is comfortable to hold. A sharp all-rounder for the kitchen and table.

Robert Herder – Stainless Blade and Plum Wood Handle

The blade of the Buckels snack knife consists of a stainless chrome-molybdenum-vanadium steel. This Windmühlenmesser is still ground very finely and thinly using the Solingen thin-grinding method and "blue-glazed" by hand by true masters. A true rarity and one of the best blue-glazed knives from the Herder manufactory. You can sharpen this knife with a diamond sharpening steel or a sharpening stone.

The handle is handcrafted from plum wood, finely ground by master craftsmen, freely shaped, polished, and oiled. The wood of the plum tree is hard, gnarled, and often interspersed with branches. It is very densely grown and of great resistance. Its beautiful, nuanced grain ranges from light brown-pink to dark brown-violet. Plum wood has an exceptional character and high utility value.

The wood is only oiled and not chemically sealed. This makes it food-safe and open-pored. After the first contact with water, it becomes somewhat rougher and thus more non-slip. The plum wood handle is characterized by a warm feel, natural grip, and individual grain. Care for the handle regularly with wood care oil, and it will bring you joy for a long time. The knife is not suitable for dishwashers.
