The Walnut Bread Board – XL Stripe by Dutchdeluxes is a seventy-centimeter-long serving board made of solid walnut, twelve centimeters wide, and surrounded by a groove. It weighs 1.35 kilograms, hangs from a leather strap, and can be used on both sides.

Walnut Bread Board – XL Stripe is the long walnut strip in the Dutchdeluxes range, measuring 70 x 12 centimeters. Walnut is darker and more consistent in grain than oak, giving the board a warm, deep tone. A thickness of two centimeters keeps the narrow shape straight across its entire length.

Walnut and oak are two different woods

Oak is one of the hard, coarse-pored hardwoods, with annual rings that appear light and distinct across the surface. Walnut is slightly softer, has finer pores, and therefore appears more uniform and calm. In terms of color, the two are furthest apart, as one leans toward yellow and the other toward brown. Anyone who lays both woods side-by-side will see the difference long before they can put it into words.

A dark stripe across the table

Seventy centimeters of dark wood draw a line across a light tablecloth that the eye naturally follows. Twelve centimeters of width provide space for pieces of cheese, grapes, and nuts arranged in a row without the layout becoming cluttered. An ash-coated goat cheese, a matured Comté, and a blue cheese stand out clearly against the brown. At the end of the row, there is enough room left next to the handle for a cheese knife and a small spoonful of chutney.

The groove catches what escapes from the cheese

A shallow channel runs around the surface, catching oil from marinated antipasti and moisture from aged cheese. A well-matured soft cheese releases significantly more than most expect at room temperature, and that is exactly where it lands. When clearing the table, the tablecloth remains clean because none of it has run over the edge of the board. A quick wipe with a damp cloth along the groove clears it again afterward.

Solid wood, oiled and waxed

The walnut comes as a single piece of solid wood, and Dutchdeluxes crafts this board in the Netherlands. The surface is factory-treated with natural grapeseed oil and beeswax, a combination that remains matte and feels silky. This treatment deepens the brown and makes the fine grain of the walnut more visible over the entire length. You can use the back for cutting, while the front remains free for presentation at the table.

Care for a long, narrow board

A seventy-centimeter strip sits diagonally in the sink when rinsing, which is practical because it shouldn't be left soaking anyway. Rinse the surface briefly, run a brush over it once in the direction of the grain, and dry it immediately. Dishwashers, microwaves, and ovens are hard on solid wood and are not suitable for this board. Afterward, the strip hangs from its leather strap to dry thoroughly in peace.
