Discover the Friedrich Becker Pinot Noir Steinwingert
The Pinot Noir Steinwingert 2018 from Weingut Friedrich Becker from the Palatinate is a VDP. Wine from Erste Lagen, which delights with great red fruit, pleasant spice and fine-grained tannins as well as finesse. Even in the warm year 2018, this Pinot Noir appears rather cool and ethereal.
In the glass, a dense, clear ruby red shines. On the nose, there are notes of sour cherries and wild strawberries, spicy tobacco and fermented tea, as well as a slightly smoky note of flint. On the palate, it is delicate and elegant with very good length and beautiful structure. The Pinot Noir Steinwingert has a high independence due to its site typicality and is more accessible and elegant than the more powerful Herrenwingert. It pairs well with noble meat, such as roasted venison saddle.
Spätburgunder – VDP. Erste Lage
The wines from VDP. Erste Lagen are positioned in the VDP. Quality Pyramid between Ortswein and Großes Gewächs. The winery dedicates its full attention to two quite independent Pinot Noirs with recognition value: the robust Herrenwingert and the delicate Steinwingert. The grapes come from estate-owned vineyards that are cultivated close to nature and cared for by hand. Wines from Erste Lagen have excellent development potential.
How the Friedrich Becker Steinwingert is made
The Pinot Noir grapes for this single-vineyard wine grow in vineyards around Schweigen in the Palatinate, on the German and Alsatian sides, on heavy clay and loamy topsoil with limestone rocks in the subsoil. On the south-facing slope, sloping towards Wissembourg in Alsace, old Pinot Noir vines grow, whose grapes were carefully hand-picked and selected. Destemmed and fermented separately on the skins. After two to three weeks of fermentation in open oak vats and tubs, they were gently pressed. Further maturation took place for 18 months in small French oak barrels. Bottling took place without filtration or fining of the wine in September 2021. This fascinating Pinot Noir with prominent acidity is practically fermented dry and thus wonderfully dry.
