Weißer Burgunder Kalkgestein from Weingut Friedrich Becker
The Weißer Burgunder Kalkgestein 2021 from Weingut Friedrich Becker is a selection of old vines and impresses with its fine spice and enormous drinkability. The 2021 Weißer Burgunder Kalkgestein remains on the fine lees for a long time and is partly aged in small wooden barrels. This creates a Pinot Blanc with creamy richness, chalky minerality, and delicate fruit. In the glass, it shines with subtle yellow reflections. In addition to aromas of ripe, yellow fruits and gooseberries, the Friedrich Becker Grauer Burgunder Kalkmergel also displays light red garden fruits. On the palate, it is juicy, cool, and elegant, with a pleasant freshness and finesse. The finish is long with creamy richness.
Weißburgunder – VDP.GUTSWEIN
The estate wines are the calling card of the winery, which is why drinkability and a fine regional character are particularly important to Friedrich Becker here. The grapes come from the estate's own vineyards, which are farmed close to nature and cultivated by hand. Estate wines are ideal food companions, even with some bottle aging, which particularly suits the Burgundies.
How Friedrich Becker Wine is Made
The Weißburgunder grapes for this estate wine grow in vineyards around Schweigen in the Palatinate, on both German and Alsatian sides, on limestone and shell limestone soils. The age of the vines is between 25-39 years, which naturally leads to low yields. The grapes were carefully hand-selected, destemmed, and gently pressed after 36 hours of maceration. The controlled fermentation and further aging take place in large oak barrels. After five months of aging on fine lees and gentle filtration, bottling took place in May 2022. This creates a special Weißer Burgunder with beautiful chalky minerality.
