Discover Kellerei Kurtatsch Grauvernatsch Südtirol DOC 2024

The Kellerei Kurtatsch Grauvernatsch Südtirol DOC 2024 is a light-bodied red wine with a pale red color and moderate alcohol content, promising enjoyment even when lightly chilled. Juicy with soft tannins and fruity aromas of cherries and wild berries, paired with subtle herbaceous and almond notes, this South Tyrolean red wine harmonizes with a variety of dishes. Especially if your pizza or pasta dishes with tomato sauce contain sausage, the wine can stand up well to these hearty flavors. We recommend enjoying the wine lightly chilled (13°C) within the first two years after harvest.

South Tyrolean Wine Quality that Convinces

The Grauvernatsch grape variety, Italian Schiava grigia, is one of South Tyrol's oldest indigenous grape varieties. The name Vernatsch is often associated with the Latin "vernaculus," meaning "native" or "local." This highlights its historical connection to this region in northern Italy. It is used to vinify traditional wine types such as St. Magdalener and Kalterersee, or as a single varietal wine, as in this case.

Grauvernatsch is a demanding Vernatsch clone that thrives particularly well on airy, sunny hillside locations. On the Dolomitic calcareous clay soils around Kurtatsch, a harmonious wine with silky tannins is produced.

Immerse yourself in the world of first-class wines and discover a true classic from Kellerei Kurtatsch, the Grauvernatsch Südtirol DOC 2024.

The Journey of Grauvernatsch: From Harvest to Bottle

This Grauvernatsch is the result of careful harvesting and masterful winemaking. At Kellerei Kurtatsch, particular importance is placed on environmentally friendly winemaking that preserves the authentic taste of the terroir. The vines for this red wine from the Selection line grow on sandy and clay soils with dolomite, clay minerals, and oxides on hillsides between 300-400 m above sea level. The grapes from small, parceled vineyards with controlled yields (80h/ha) are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness and quickly brought in small crates to the newly built, impressive winery in Kurtatsch. There, according to the specifications of winemaker Erwin Carli, they were destemmed and gently pressed after temperature-controlled mash fermentation in stainless steel. During aging in large concrete vats on fine lees, the Grauvernatsch underwent malolactic fermentation.

Kellerei Kurtatsch cultivates a deep connection to nature and its South Tyrolean homeland. This attitude is expressed in sustainable wine production, which aims for minimal environmental impact while emphasizing the uniqueness of the terroir. The cooperative is known for its exceptional wines, which are characterized by their elegance and complexity. The Kellerei Kurtatsch Grauvernatsch Südtirol DOC 2024 is no exception. This wine is a testament to the winery's commitment to quality and excellence.
