Langenloiser Grüner Veltliner 2021 – Kamptal DAC by Fred Loimer
The Loimer Langenloiser Grüner Veltliner 2021 Kamptal DAC is a dry, organic village wine from Austria. On the nose, the Langenloiser Grüner Veltliner from Fred Loimer winery offers aromas of dried yellow apples, lemon verbena, a hint of wet stone, and flint. Deeper inhalation reveals calendula and chamomile, with aromas of apple and lemon jelly and dried pineapple slowly emerging from the glass. On the palate, it is dry, with creamy extract sweetness, juicy, minerally-salty with balanced acidity, and great harmony. A village wine that brilliantly represents its origin, Langenlois, and forms an exciting bridge between Grüner Veltliner Kamptal and Fred Loimer's single-vineyard wines.
Fred Loimer – Winemaking
"The 2021 vintage – The first few months were very dry and cool. This slowed down budbreak and spared us the consequences of late frost. In June, we enjoyed a few hot days, but the summer was very unstable and at times affected by storms. Autumn showed its best side. Perfect harvesting conditions and healthy grapes gave us a picture-perfect harvest, which we were able to conclude on October 23rd," reports Fred Loimer about this vintage.
The grapes for this Langeloiser Grüner Veltliner Kamptal DAC come from good vineyard sites around Langenlois, where the Fred Loimer winery is located. The vines, up to 50 years old, grow mainly on gneiss, with a small portion on loess and sandy-clay sediments. The Grüner Veltliner was harvested from mid-September to early October 2021 – naturally by hand, selectively in small 20kg crates. After mostly no maceration, 20% with a short maceration time of max. 2 hours, whole-bunch pressing took place, followed by spontaneous fermentation, 70% in stainless steel tanks, 30% in large wood (2,500l oak) for 2 to 4 weeks at 20 to 22 degrees. The young wine then remained on the fine lees for 5 months before being bottled in April 2021.
