gluegglich – the red wine by Fred Loimer
The Loimer gluegglich Red is an organic red wine from Austria. A natural wine cuvée made from Zweigelt, St. Laurent, and Pinot Noir. In the glass, the red wine shines cherry red with purple reflections, inviting the first sip. On the nose, the gluegglich Red from Fred Loimer Winery smells of sweet and tart cranberries and preserved Amarena cherries, with a hint of walnut. On the palate, this cherry-red cuvée from the wine region of Austria is incredibly powerful with an enormous, juicy flow, lively acidity, bone-dry, light-footed alcohol with a moderate tannic structure and a long finish. A natural wine that, when served chilled, is a versatile food companion.
Winemaking with Respect
The grapes for the gluegglich Red from Loimer Winery come from biodynamically cultivated vineyards in Gumpoldskirchen at an altitude of 240-270 meters above sea level, where they benefit from the Pannonian climate with hot summers and dry autumns. The 10-20 year old vines grow on clayey sedimentary soils interspersed with calcareous gravel. Harvesting was, of course, done by hand, selectively in small 20kg boxes. The hand-picked grapes were vinified according to their grape variety. The Zweigelt was destemmed, fermented on the skins in steel for one week, and aged in 600-liter barrels. The Pinot Noir was fermented as whole clusters for three weeks in wooden fermenters and aged in small barrels. And the St. Laurent was macerated as whole clusters by foot in a vat, pre-fermented on the skins for two days, then fermented in 600-liter barrels. After aging, the wines were blended and bottled without filtration or fining. The Fred Loimer gluegglich Red is a country wine with 11.5% alcohol.
Fred Loimer says this about his house wine: Wine pressed as in the past, with the knowledge of today! Accompanied from grape to bottle with minimal intervention. Naturally biodynamic. Unfined and unfiltered. Vinified without SO2, bottled with low SO2. The gluegglich Red is characterized by deeply rooted Austrian grape varieties. Spontaneously, partly fermented with berries, unfined and unfiltered. Patiently matured in wood. Dry with fresh acidity and vibrancy.
