Ried Loiserberg – A Grüner Veltliner by Fred Loimer from Kamptal
The Loimer Grüner Veltliner Loiserberg 2022 from Langenlois in Kamptal is a dry organic wine from the Erste Lage Loiserberg in Austria. On the nose, the Loimer Grüner Veltliner Loiserberg has aromas of dried apples, dates, green olives, and a hint of white pepper. On the palate, it is mouth-filling, with elegant extract sweetness, high salinity, mineral grip, and a long finish. A single-vineyard wine with a creamy texture that truly reflects its origin: the Loiserberg. Food pairing? Clearly: the classic Wiener Schnitzel.
Fred Loimer – Winemaking
The grapes for this Fred Loimer Grüner Veltliner Loiserberg Kamptal DAC come from the Erste Lage – Ried Loiserberg, not far from Langenlois, where the Loimer winery is located. The up to 55-year-old vines grow in biodynamically managed mountain vineyards at 350-390 meters above sea level, with mica schist and clayey brown earth layers. The Grüner Veltliner was harvested in mid-September on September 30, October 1, and October 11, 2022 – hand-picked selectively in small 20kg crates. After a short maceration, whole-bunch pressing took place, followed by spontaneous fermentation in equal parts in used oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The aging also took place in equal parts in large, neutral oak barrels and stainless steel, first for 6 months on the full lees and another 4 months on the fine lees, before it was bottled for the first time at the end of August 2023. Delivered to our warehouse on August 14, 2024.
