Grüner Veltliner Loiserberg – Fred Loimer Winery
The Fred Loimer Grüner Veltliner Loiserberg 2019 Kamptal DAC is a dry organic wine from the Erste Lage Loiserberg in Austria. On the nose, the Loimer Grüner Veltliner Loiserberg offers aromas of dried apples, frankincense, and a hint of pepper. On the palate, it is mouth-filling, with elegant extract sweetness, mineral grip, and a long finish. A single-vineyard wine that truly expresses its origin: the Loiserberg. Food pairing? Clearly: the classic Wiener Schnitzel.
Fred Loimer – Winemaking
The grapes for this Fred Loimer Grüner Veltliner Loiserberg Kamptal DAC come from the Erste Lage Ried Loiserberg, not far from Langenlois, where the Loimer winery is located. The up to 50-year-old vines grow in biodynamically managed mountain vineyards at 350-390 meters above sea level, on mica schist with clayey brown earth topsoil. The Grüner Veltliner was harvested from mid to late September 2018 – of course by hand, selectively in small 20kg boxes. After a short maceration period, whole-bunch pressing took place, followed by spontaneous fermentation in equal parts in used oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The aging also took place in equal parts in large, neutral oak or acacia wood barrels, as well as in stainless steel, initially for 4 months on the full lees and another 4 months on the fine lees, before it was bottled in June 2020.
