Experience Pinot Noir from Austria from the Fred Loimer Winery

The Pinot Noir 2020 from the Fred Loimer Winery is a dry organic red wine from Austria that impresses with its finesse and elegance. On the nose, notes of juicy red fruits like morello cherries, plums, and raisins unfold, accompanied by spicy forest floor, dried herbs, and graphite. In the glass, the unfiltered Pinot Noir shines with a transparent ruby red. On the palate, it is complex yet light-footed, elegant, with fresh acidity; fine tannin structure meets grip and minerality. The Loimer Pinot Noir pairs well with dark chocolate, aged mountain cheeses, as well as wok vegetables or curry dishes.

Fred Loimer – Winemaking

The Loimer winery is known for its first-class wines, and the Pinot Noir 2020 is no exception. The vineyards in both the Kamptal and the Thermenregion offer ideal conditions for cultivating Pinot Noir, which is reflected in the outstanding quality of this wine. For instance, some of the grapes for the Pinot Noir from the Loimer winery grow in biodynamically managed vineyards at 200-300 meters above sea level in Gumpoldskirchen, where they benefit from the Pannonian climate with hot summers and dry autumns. They grow on clayey sedimentary soils interspersed with limestone gravel. The other part grows in Langenlois in biodynamically managed vineyards with loess soils.

The Pinot Noir was harvested from early to mid-September 2020 – of course, by hand, selectively in small 20kg crates. After three weeks of maceration, it was gently pressed. Fermented spontaneously in used wooden fermentation vats. Afterwards, it matured for 12 months in 300l oak barrels on its own lees, then 10 months in large wooden barrels, before being bottled in August 2022 after another four months in a stainless steel tank, without fining and unfiltered, with low sulfur. In our warehouse since August 14, 2024.
