The Markus Schneider Rooi Olifant Red Blend 2021 is a powerful yet elegant red wine, crafted in South Africa by Markus Schneider together with his friend Dani Steytler, owner of the Kaapzicht Estate in Stellenbosch.

This red wine is driven by the idea and challenge of creating wine projects abroad, learning from local winemakers, and finding a home in entirely different wine styles and countries. Together with friends, wines are created in both the Old and New Worlds, produced in small batches and united under one label. The Rooi Olifant is a full-bodied, velvety red wine cuvée from Markus Schneider's second home, South Africa.

The Kaapzicht vineyards are situated on the Bottelary Hills, offering a direct view over the entire Cape bay. Here, grapes were harvested separately from five different small plots. All five areas are guarded by oversized granite boulders, which are known on the farm as The Olifant Rocks.

The Markus Schneider Rooi Olifant is a red wine blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. It has an aroma of rich fruit, sour cherries, blackcurrants, and plum compote with cinnamon, complemented by an all-encompassing spice. On the palate, it is soft and juicy, with a pleasantly warm feel and good acidity structure. A red elephant that manages to dance through a china shop without breaking a single cup.

Markus Schneider – Winemaking

The vines for this red wine from Markus Schneider grow in various small plots overlooking the bay of Cape Town. At the perfect moment, ripe, healthy grapes are harvested by hand and processed with care. Following traditional mash fermentation in red wine fermenters, the mash is gently pressed under low pressure and subsequently aged without outside intervention in multi-year wooden barrels.

We store our wines professionally, in the dark and at a constant temperature in modern facilities climate-controlled by geothermal energy and photovoltaic systems.
