Spiced sardines in oil with smoke aroma, smoky and piquant
The spiced sardines in oil with smoke aroma from A Banca da Sardinha combine a delicate smoke aroma with a pinch of cayenne pepper. Not a gentle piece of smoked fish, but rather the piquant version of the classic smoked sardine.
Spiced sardines in oil with smoke aroma from A Banca da Sardinha are the only variety in the range that combines smoke and heat: 70 percent sardine fillet, plus olive oil, smoke aroma, and a hint of cayenne pepper flavor. Unlike the mild, classic smoked version, this tin brings an extra piquant kick.
Smoky, piquant, spiced
The smoke aroma initially settles over the fish gently as usual, but the cayenne pepper follows shortly thereafter, giving the tin a warmth that the pure smoked variety does not have. Smoky, piquant, spiced – this combination unfolds step by step, not all at once.
With 0.3 grams of salt per 100 grams, it is also the lowest-salt spiced variety in the entire range; the heat comes almost exclusively from the cayenne pepper and not from the salt content. The savory flavor is best experienced straight from the tin with a cold beer, finely chopped over a pizza, or folded into a smoky pasta with bacon.
If you prefer it without heat, then reach for the classic smoked sardines; if you are looking for even more fire, try the sardines with malagueta chili from the same house. Spiced sardines in oil with smoke aroma remain the only smoky-spicy combination in the entire range.
First smoked, then seasoned
As with all A Banca da Sardinha varieties, the sardines are freshly caught off the Portuguese Atlantic coast, cleaned by hand, and pre-cooked using the traditional pre-cooked method before being packed into the tin with olive oil, smoke aroma, and cayenne pepper.
Canned by hand and also wrapped by hand in the attractive colorful paper, every tin leaves the manufacture only after several manual steps. Caught using purse seine fishing, certified to the MSC standard.
Mediterran Food & Beverage also relies on clear, documented standards for food safety, so you can rely on every tin.
The most spiced smoked variant among many recipes
Behind A Banca da Sardinha is the Lisbon-based company Mediterran Food & Beverage, which has managed the brand since 2007 and expanded its range to include many recipes, from plain to piquant. We carry almost all of them. The spiced sardines in oil with smoke aroma are the only variety among them that combines smoke and heat.
It is precisely this range between classic and experimental that has brought the brand beyond Portugal to England, the USA, and to us in Germany, where it has long had loyal fans in the gourmet scene, especially among those who like to combine smoke and heat.
Those who would like to taste their way through the entire range from A Banca da Sardinha will find mild, smoked, and spiced varieties side-by-side with us, in addition to other sardines from Portugal from other manufactures. Simply open and enjoy, preferably with a cold beer on a balmy summer evening.
