2023 Pinot Gris – Organic Wine from Wittmann
The 2023 Wittmann Pinot Gris from the Wittmann estate impresses with its fine spice and tremendous drinkability. This 2023 Pinot Gris estate wine was left on the fine lees for a long time and was largely aged in large wooden barrels. This creates a Pinot with a creamy melt and rather subtle fruit; alongside aromas of apples and pears, the Wittmann Pinot Gris also shows nutty notes, hints of brioche, and a fine herbal spice on the finish.

The estate wines are the calling card of the winery, which is why elegance and a clear reflection of origin are particularly important to us for these wines. The grapes come from the estate's own vineyards, which are farmed biodynamically and tended with craftsmanship. They are ideal food companions, and not just in their first year.
Weingut Wittmann – how wine is made
The Pinot Gris grapes grow on the gentle hills surrounding the Wittmann estate in Westhofen, Rheinhessen. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, meaning without chemical-synthetic agents, but with a vibrant soil beneath the vines and an attentive eye during the daily walk through the vineyard rows. "Every contact is a dialogue," is how Philipp Wittmann sums it up. This means intensive vineyard care throughout the year, low yields, and meticulous manual selection of the grapes form the foundation for the high quality of the wine.
After being harvested by hand, the grapes are gently pressed, and the must is guided into the cellar by gravity alone, without any pumping. There, it is given time to ferment spontaneously in traditional wooden barrels and remains on the fine lees for a long time, which gives the wine its structure. In the end, there is a lot of tasting and blending, as each wooden barrel contains the must from only a few rows of vines, until the perfect balance is found. Winemaking is a matter of the head, with heart.
