Wittmann Winery – Organic Riesling from Limestone 2023
The 2023 Riesling from Limestone from Wittmann Winery impressively showcases its purist origins. Rich yellow Riesling fruit, fine herbal notes, candied lemon, delicately smoky, juicy, full-bodied freshness, and a clear structure meet the typical limestone minerality of Westhofen. An elegant Riesling from limestone with a strong character, salty and powerful, complex and profound. This wine simply leaves you wanting more!

Wittmann Winery – how wine is made
The Riesling grapes grow on the gentle hills around the Wittmann winery in Westhofen, Rheinhessen. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, which means avoiding synthetic chemical agents as well as activating soil life and being attentive while walking through the vine rows every day. "Every contact is a dialogue," is how Philipp Wittmann sums it up. This means intensive vineyard care throughout the year, low yields, and rigorous hand-selection of the grapes form the foundation for the high quality of the wine.
After the manual harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is guided into the cellar by gravity alone, without any pumping. There, it has time to ferment spontaneously in traditional wooden barrels and remains on the fine lees for a long time, which gives the wine its structure. In the end, there is a lot of tasting and blending, as each wooden barrel contains only the must from a few vine rows, until the perfect balance is found. Winemaking is a matter of the mind with heart.
