Enjoy the Galup Colomba tradizionale with candied oranges

The Galup Colomba tradizionale is a fine yeast cake with candied oranges and a hazelnut glaze, and is the Italian Easter classic par excellence. Its soft and even dough, perfected by the right browning at the end of the baking process, is simply a delight. What makes the Galup Colomba special is its homemade Piedmontese hazelnut glaze with whole roasted almonds and pearl sugar as a topping.

Classic in its recipe, the Colomba is characterized by the purity of its taste. Flour, butter, eggs, candied oranges (21%) and natural yeast make the Colomba a unique dessert and a good companion to tea or coffee, but it also tastes wonderful with Prosecco. You can also toast slices of Colomba and enjoy them with jam, or fry them as French toast.

The Colomba is hand-wrapped in pink paper in the typical Galup design and is a valuable, welcome gift during the Easter season.

Galup – una storia italiana

The traditional bakery Galup is known for high-quality Panettone and Colombe, the Easter cake, and has been since 1922 when Pietro Ferrua first baked them. Times have changed, but the Galup yeast cake is still baked with the same mother yeast, which is refreshed every day with water and flour and is the sanctuary of the patisserie. The mother yeast is one of the decisive factors, as it guarantees the authenticity of the flavors, the balanced taste and the soft dough, which has a full 40 hours to rise before being baked. But not only the yeast has a great influence on the quality of the Galup Colomba. Very fresh eggs from free-range chickens, selected wheat flour, fresh Italian milk, traditional butter and oranges candied only with sugar, as well as Piedmontese hazelnuts are allowed in the dough of the traditional cake. This is how good the traditional Colomba pasquale can taste!

Colomba pasquale – the Easter cake from Italy

What Panettone is to Italians at Christmas, Colomba is to them at Easter. The Colomba is a traditional yeast cake baked in the shape of a flying dove, a dove of peace. The soft yeast cake is baked without raisins but is full of candied oranges. It must contain at least 15% candied fruit to be called Colomba, but only 1% yeast.

Galup says this about its Colomba Pasquale: "The dove is the symbol of spring and Easter. With its iconic shape and its fresh and light ingredients, the orange aroma and crunchy almond pieces, this yeast cake is meant to bring a touch of freshness and sweetness to every table. Buon Appetito"
