Questions about Blueberry Extra Jam?

We are happy to help you with Alain Milliat.

Wild Blueberry Preserve

The Alain Milliat Extra Blueberry Preserve is a French preserve made from wild blueberries, or 'myrtille sauvage'. With 60% fruit, it is intensely dark, silky, and not too sweet. Featuring whole wild berries, it is a true blueberry preserve.

Wild blueberry preserve is a rarity: the Alain Milliat Extra Blueberry Preserve is packed with wild blueberries, known in French as 'myrtille sauvage'. With a 60% fruit content in every 300g jar, it tastes of ripe, woodland berries rather than sugar—dark and profound.

Dark, silky, and full of forest aroma

The moment you open the jar, the dark, woody scent of wild blueberries rises up.

The preserve has a dark, reddish-black hue, a silky consistency, and is filled with small, whole wild berries. On the palate, the 'myrtille' reveals its fine acidity and deep, almost resinous aroma, which cultivated blueberries simply do not possess. Dark, woody, and vibrant, it spreads beautifully on bread.

That is the essence of an 'Extra' preserve: lots of fruit, very little else. The sugar takes a backseat, allowing the wild berry to lead with its subtle sweetness and depth. This is what fruit tastes like when harvested at peak ripeness and cooked gently.

Anyone who knows the difference between wild and cultivated blueberries understands why the extra effort is worth it: the small 'myrtille' is more intense, darker, and spicier, though it isn't always abundant every season. In the jar, it remains what it was in the forest: a unique, spirited little berry.

With sheep's milk cheese and Greek yogurt

This wild blueberry preserve is capable of more than just breakfast; it loves the contrast with salty and creamy pairings.

It is a delight on a croissant, but it truly shines alongside sheep's milk cheese or stirred into Greek yogurt. It works just as well with pancakes or as a fruity note to complement game dishes, where it blends wonderfully. If you enjoy dark flavors, try pairing it with our Violet Fig preserve.

Drizzled over vanilla ice cream or cheesecake, the 'myrtille' reveals its full depth. You can find more for your breakfast table right nearby.

And for dessert, it shows its darker side: on pancakes, in a cheesecake, or with a piece of aged cheese and honey. The wild blueberry brings a touch of the forest to the plate—something its cultivated cousin from the supermarket shelf simply cannot achieve; in this regard, the wild berry is in a league of its own.

Myrtille Sauvage, the wild berry

The 'myrtille sauvage' is legendary for its aroma and its ability to provide preserves with a rich texture and a very subtle sweetness.

Wild blueberries do not grow in neat rows; they are foraged, and as Alain always emphasizes, they only carry their full, dark aroma when perfectly ripe. Alain Milliat, himself a fruit grower from Orliénas near Lyon, took over his family farm in 1983 and, starting in 1997, elevated fruit to the same level of quality he knew from wine.

He sent his first six juices to 60 top-tier restaurants, and the enthusiasm of the sommeliers proved him right. The fruits are sourced from various regions in France, and the preserves are cooked in the Rhône department near Lyon. What has been true for his juices since 1997 applies here in the jar as well. The full story is told in the portrait of Alain Milliat, and you can find more varieties among our preserves. Truly remarkable.
