Berger Organic Whole Milk Chocolate with fig pieces from the autumn collection

Berger Confiserie's Organic Whole Milk Chocolate with Fig Pieces is the new fruit variety in the 2026 autumn collection. Soft pieces of fig lie in tender milk chocolate, honey-sweet and fruity, a bar for the first cool evenings of the year.

Organic Whole Milk Chocolate with Fig Pieces is what Berger Confiserie from Lofer, in Salzburg's Saalach Valley, calls its milk chocolate with 37 percent cocoa and almost 16 percent fig. The fruit brings a honey-sweet warmth to the milky melt and makes the bar the house's new autumn release.

Tender melt and soft fig

First the milk chocolate settles softly on the tongue, then the fig pieces join in, juicy and honey-sweet, with the warm character of ripe dried fruit.

The fig brings depth, honey-sweet, warm, a little caramel-like, and so finds its way straight to the mild milk. Where raspberry or passion fruit cut in bright and sharp, the fig pulls in the same direction as the milk chocolate and makes the bar round rather than lively. Sweet, soft, fruity – this is how a fruit tastes that, once dried, brings more character than fresh from the tree.

The fruit content is high enough that you come across fig in every piece, not just now and then. As you chew, its aroma stays longer than the chocolate around it. So in the end the fruit lingers alone on the tongue, long after the milk has gone.

Cocoa from the Dominican Republic

The raw cocoa for the milk chocolate comes from the CONACADO cooperative in the Dominican Republic, which the company has worked with for many years.

In Lofer, the mass then runs through the conche for between sixty and seventy hours, being stirred and warmed. By the end, the bitter compounds have evaporated and the melt lies silky on the tongue. Other houses take their chocolate out of the tank after three to five hours. This patience is the difference between sandy and velvety, and you taste it where the milk chocolate meets the fig.

Only after conching do the fig pieces go into the finished mass, so they stay soft and keep their shape instead of melting away in the heat. The bar is wrapped in virgin-fiber paper printed with water-based inks.

The new variety in the autumn collection

The fig is the fruit variety Berger has newly added to its range for autumn 2026, and it suits the season perfectly. After the bright summer varieties with strawberry and passion fruit, the tone here turns warmer and calmer.

The bar holds 90 g of chocolate; store it cool and dry, away from strongly scented neighbors in the cupboard. At room temperature the fruit comes through more clearly, because the melt gives way sooner. A strong espresso stands up well to the fruity sweetness, and with a pot of black tea the bar will carry you through a long afternoon by the window.

If you are after a sharper fruit, reach for the milk chocolate with raspberry pieces; if you want to taste the cocoa unadorned, go for the plain organic milk chocolate. Both are waiting among the chocolate bars next to the rest of the Berger range. Three bars, three temperaments.
