Organic Whole Milk Chocolate – Greetings from St. Nicholas is a small St. Nicholas gift from Berger Confiserie in Lofer, a bar of mild organic milk chocolate in a handy size. It fits into every boot left outside the door and brings the first sweetness of Advent on the morning of St. Nicholas Day.

Mild chocolate for small and big boots

The tender organic milk chocolate of this St. Nicholas gift melts mild and creamy, with the round flavor of milk and cocoa and a quiet vanilla sweetness in the background.

Children reach for it because it is so gentle and creamy, and adults recognize in it the taste of good milk and slowly stirred cocoa. Among the tangerines, nuts and gingerbread in the boot, it is usually the piece that disappears first.

Berger Confiserie buys the cocoa for it from the CONACADO cooperative in the Dominican Republic. Berger then stirs the mass in the conche for sixty to seventy hours, until the melt is velvety.

On the eve of St. Nicholas Day, children in Austria and Germany put their polished boots outside the door, and in the morning they find sweets, nuts and tangerines inside.

The custom goes back to Saint Nicholas of Myra, a bishop of the fourth century. Legends tell how he secretly gave gifts to people in need. To this day he wears a miter and bishop's staff when he visits the children on the eve of his feast day. In many places in Salzburger Land he makes his way through the villages together with Krampus, his horned companion.

A St. Nicholas with a golden staff

The wrapper shows St. Nicholas in a red cloak with a golden, curled bishop's staff; behind him lies a snow-covered village with a church tower under a dark winter sky.

Beside him, the lettering “Greetings from St. Nicholas,” written in German, stands in warm copper. Fir trees in violet and pink frame the picture, and snowflakes fall over the rooftops. The bar belongs to an illustrated line in which Berger shows its home of Lofer as a colorful winter fairy tale, from the Advent calendar to the memory game.

So on St. Nicholas morning, a child holds a small picture in their hand that they may want to look at for a long time before the first corner is broken off.
