Organic Sugar-Roasted Almonds from Berger Confiserie

Berger Confiserie's Organic Sugar-Roasted Almonds are almonds roasted in sugar with cinnamon, vanilla and a trace of tonka bean, vegan and organic. The blue box with a window holds 90 g, as sweet and fragrant as those from the Christmas market.

Organic Sugar-Roasted Almonds are a traditional Christmas treat from Berger Confiserie in Lofer, whole organic almonds in a sweet, crunchy coating of sugar and cinnamon. Almost two thirds of the weight is almonds, and the rest is the fragrant crust that crackles softly as you chew.

Cinnamon, vanilla and a touch of tonka bean

These sugar-roasted almonds smell of cinnamon and vanilla, and a trace of tonka bean lays a warm, almost marzipan-like spice beneath them. The tonka bean is the seed of a South American tree, and even a tiny amount makes the cinnamon rounder and deeper.

The coating breaks with a soft crack when you bite into it, and beneath it waits the almond, roasted by the hot sugar and still firm inside. The sugar and syrup form a crust that is sweet and crunches dryly.

So they taste as if fresh from a stall at the Christmas market, and you can keep them in the cupboard into the new year.

Why the almond is called sugar-roasted

Sugar-roasted almonds are traditionally made in a copper kettle, in which almonds are stirred nonstop with sugar, water and spices.

First the water evaporates, and the sugar crystallizes into a white, grainy layer around the nut. Then the heat melts it a second time and it caramelizes until the almonds shine and their scent drifts across the whole market.

This double change distinguishes a sugar-roasted almond from a plain roasted one, and it gives the crust its typical bite. During roasting, the cinnamon combines with the melting sugar, which is why its scent runs through the whole crust.

Vegan, organic and in a blue box

According to Berger Confiserie, these sugar-roasted almonds are vegan, and all ingredients come from organic farming, from the almond to the tonka bean. So everyone at the table can help themselves to these almonds, whether they eat vegan or not.

They are packed in a deep blue box with a window, on whose lid a golden bowl of almonds sits on a blue plate. Through the window you can see the almonds before the box is even opened.

The deep blue recalls the night sky, which Berger made the theme of its 2026 Christmas collection, and so the box sits well next to the bars and pralines of the same line.

From the Christmas market to your own table
