Mirabelle: A golden-yellow classic from the Kaiserstuhl

The Mirabelle from Faude Feine Brände is a clear Mirabelle plum brandy made from golden-yellow Nancy mirabelles, distilled at the Kaiserstuhl at 40% ABV. Floral, fruity, with a delicate stone note – a local classic for the hour after a meal.

Mirabelle plum brandy from the house of Faude Feine Brände – the Mirabelle is a fruit brandy from master distiller Florian Faude in Bötzingen at the Kaiserstuhl. Using hand-picked, fully ripe Nancy mirabelles, he distills a spirit with a floral bouquet, full of fruit and a subtle stone note.

Golden-yellow fruit, full and floral

On the nose, the Mirabelle brandy smells floral, reminiscent of blossoms and sun-ripened, golden-yellow fruit with their characteristic red blush.

On the palate, it is dry and refined, carried by the sweet Mirabelle fruit, with a subtle stone note in the background. Floral, fruity, velvety – the finish remains smooth and long.

The brandy appears crystal clear in the glass – with fruit brandy, the alcohol is derived solely from the fruit's sugar; nothing is added. This way, you taste the Mirabelle just as it hung on the tree, only concentrated and warm.

Ice-cold after a meal, with plum cake or ice cream

Served neat and chilled, the Mirabelle brandy is a classic digestif that gently concludes a good meal.

The Mirabelle is one of the distillery's most floral fruit brandies and is best enjoyed ice-cold from a small glass after dinner. It pairs effortlessly with a piece of plum cake or vanilla ice cream. If you love local brandies, you should also try the Cherry and the Williams Christ Pear.

Nancy mirabelle, a royal legacy

The Nancy mirabelle belongs to the rose family and feels particularly at home in the sunny Kaiserstuhl region.

Fully ripened to a golden yellow with a red blush, the small fruits are hand-picked in several rounds – so sweet that they tempt you to snack on them while harvesting. Similar in size to a sweet cherry, the Mirabelle is popularly known as the yellow prune.

Its journey has been long: originating in Asia, the French King René d'Anjou brought the fruit to France in the 15th century, where it became native to the region around Nancy in Lorraine. Around 1750, the golden-yellow plum arrived in Germany. It is harvested in late summer, ripe but still crisp, as it quickly becomes mealy if overripe.

Florian Faude, a trained winemaker, founded his distillery in Bötzingen in 2006 and built his own distillery in 2017. "Unlike a 'Geist' (fruit infusion spirit), the Mirabelle is a true brandy," Florian explains – the fruits are fermented and distilled, and the alcohol comes from the fruit's sugar. He brings the brandy to 40% ABV using soft Black Forest water, with no added flavors or dyes, bottled in a 0.5-liter bottle. You can find more spirits from Faude Feine Brände here.

Served cool, a greeting from late summer

Served cool at around 16 degrees Celsius, the floral-fruity aroma of the Mirabelle brandy really blossoms. Once opened, it keeps for a long time if stored in a cool, dark place. In its simple bottle, the Mirabelle also makes an honest gift for anyone who appreciates fine fruit brandies and a piece of Lorraine in their glass. A golden-yellow greeting from late summer that captures the sunshine in a glass.
