Organic Zweigelt from Burgenland from Weingut Gernot Heinrich
The Gernot Heinrich Zweigelt 2019 is an organic red wine, partly grown on the calcareous and slate soils on the eastern slopes of the Leitha Mountains, partly on sandy-loamy soils on the southern slopes of the Parndorf Plain and on humus-rich heath soils, i.e., on both sides of Lake Neusiedl in the Austrian Burgenland.
The nose detects all kinds of cherries, sour cherry, black cherry, heart cherry, making your mouth water. On the palate, the Zweigelt from Weingut Heinrich shows delicate, grippy tannins and a pleasant coolness. Resistance to drinking is futile.
Gernot Heinrich – Winemaking
The Zweigelt grapes, hand-picked at the end of August 2019, come from both sides of Lake Neusiedl, from the Leitha Mountains and the Parndorf Plain. Heike and Gernot Heinrich cultivate their vineyards organically-biologically or biodynamically with a lot of manual work and care. After harvesting, the grapes remain on the mash for two weeks in wooden fermentation vats and stainless steel tanks, then gently pressed in a basket press and spontaneously fermented. The Zweigelt matured for over three years in wooden fermentation vats and 500-liter oak barrels before being bottled at the end of April 2023.
