Gabarinza 2017 - Organic Red Wine from Gernot Heinrich Winery
The Gernot Heinrich Gabarinza 2017 is a red wine cuvée from biodynamic cultivation. The grapes come from one of the oldest and best hillside vineyards in Gols, named Gabarinza, which are south-west facing and characterized by red terrace gravel and sandy-loamy sedimentary soils.
On the nose, dark berry fruits such as blueberries, blackberries, and sloes, and tart rose hips, combine with something reminiscent of wet autumn leaves and a hint of pepper. On the palate, the Gabarinza from Weingut Heinrich shows fine-grained, grippy tannins, and at the same time a velvety softness and a pleasant coolness. The Gabarinza is powerful, fleshy, full-bodied: a wine that can accompany braised, dark meat in rich sauces without being overpowered.
Gernot Heinrich – Winemaking
The Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and Merlot grapes, harvested by hand from mid-September to early October 2017, grow in vineyards cultivated biodynamically by Heike and Gernot Heinrich with great manual effort and care. After the harvest, the grapes remain on the mash for three weeks in wooden fermentation tanks, ferment spontaneously, and are then gently pressed in a basket press and fermented spontaneously. The Pannobile matured for 28 months in used 500-liter oak barrels before being bottled unfiltered in March 2020.
