Pickled onions with a dark, sweet balsamic aroma

Königskind Balsamic Onions are 230g of dark brown, sweet and sour pickled onions with the characteristic depth of a good balsamic vinegar and a subtle hint of spices – handmade by Uwe König in his small gourmet manufactory in Oberberg. The perfect accompaniment for cheese boards, grilled steaks, meatballs, sausages and ham, with a balanced sweet and sour aroma and velvety texture.

Königskind's Balsamic Onions are a spicy specialty from the Oberberg region. Onions are pickled with balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, salt, and fine spices, then slowly simmered until they have fully absorbed the color, acidity, and aroma of the balsamic. Only 6 honest ingredients go into the jar – without artificial flavors, colorings, preservatives, or flavor enhancers. Uwe König exclusively processes regional, untreated onions by hand.

Dark-sweet, round-sour and with a velvety texture

Once opened, the deep, warm scent of balsamic rises – sweet, slightly woody, with the typical dark note of a long-aged vinegar. The color is a rich, glossy mahogany, in which the onion rings shimmer silver, the consistency velvety and slightly gelatinous due to the reduced vinegar and brown sugar. A visually and aromatically impressive product that immediately makes its presence felt on any plate.

On the tongue, the onions begin with their natural sweetness, enhanced by the brown sugar, then comes the round, dark acidity of the balsamic, followed by a fine spiciness from the spices that resonate in the background. The onions have completely lost their pungent sharpness, are soft and sweet, but retain enough bite for a pleasant texture. A long-lasting finish, sweet-sour and warm.

Try them with a cheese board, steak, and meatballs

The Balsamic Onions are the crowning glory for your grilled steak. Especially delicious with a medium-rare entrecôte, a juicy beef fillet, a hearty flank steak, or a crispy bratwurst – the onion sweetness breaks up the meat flavor, the balsamic adds a dark depth that easily surpasses classic mustard or ketchup accompaniments. A tablespoon next to the meat, and the grilled plate for ambitious eaters is ready.

We also find them indispensable on a cheese board: with a strong mountain cheese, a creamy blue cheese, an aged cheddar, or a piece of Parmigiano, they create the classic Italian-rustic combination. A few roasted walnuts, a slice of country bread, a glass of red Primitivo – and dinner becomes a small feast.

Our tip for everyday cooking: Stir 2 tablespoons of the balsamic onions into warm pasta with 50g roasted bacon and arugula, a sprinkle of Parmigiano over it – and you have a noodle dish with character in 10 minutes. They also go well as a topping on burgers, scrambled egg sandwiches, with red cabbage, or with Leberkäse. The Königskind Manufactory with handmade specialties

The Königskind gourmet manufactory is the passion project of Uwe König and his wife Sabine. What started as a hobby in their home kitchen in 2005, the couple expanded into a full-time business in 2014 due to the growing demand for their specialties. To this day, all Königskind products are cooked in the kitchen "unterm Ziegenbusch" in Wiehl – all by hand, in manageable quantities, with the care that only a small family manufactory can provide.

Uwe König exclusively uses regional, untreated onions for the Balsamic Onions and consistently avoids artificial flavors, colorings, preservatives, and flavor enhancers. This is the Königskind philosophy: a few honest ingredients that still taste like vegetables and the craftsmanship behind each jar. In addition to the Balsamic Onions, we also offer BBQ sauces, chutneys, mustards, fruit spreads, and the legendary black walnuts from the same kitchen – all products of the same signature style.
