Fruity-spicy, the classic with a cheese platter

Königskind Pear Mustard is the fruity-spicy mustard specialty from the Bergisches Land – sweet pears meet spicy mustard seeds, handmade by Uwe König in manageable quantities. The perfect accompaniment to aged cheese, bratwurst and cold roasts, with 63% fruit content from regional pears.

The pear mustard from Königskind is a fruity-spicy mustard specialty from the Oberbergisches Land. With 63% pears, sugar, mustard seeds, a little water, vinegar, salt and natural pectin, only a few honest ingredients go into the jar – without artificial flavors, colorings, preservatives or flavor enhancers. Uwe König stirs the mustard by hand from regional, untreated fruit.

Sweet pear meets spicy mustard seeds with a light seasoning

Once opened, the pear mustard first smells sweet and fruity, almost like a compote, with a clear but not aggressive mustard accent underneath. The consistency is pleasantly velvety, with finely visible mustard seeds that give the whole thing texture. The color is a warm mustard yellow with a hint of honey brown from the cooked pears.

On the tongue, this mustard begins with the full sweetness of pear, then the mustard seeds with their fine spiciness, which rises pleasantly in the nose without burning. The finish is long, fruity-sweet and gently spicy. Unlike a classic Dijon mustard with its high acidity, the pear mustard is mild, round and warm in character – a mustard that even delights people who usually avoid mustard.

Our tip for the aged cheese platter and for Bergisch bratwurst

The pear mustard is perfect on a cheese platter. Especially convincing with spicy aged mountain cheese, a strong Comté or a piece of old Gouda – the mild pear sweetness catches the spice of the cheese, the mustard sharpness elevates it. A small dab on a cracker, a few roasted walnuts next to it, and you have a perfect aperitif or a demanding dinner.

We also like it with hearty meat dishes: with Sunday roast with red cabbage, with a hearty pork knuckle, with duck breast or with a classic ham. With good bratwurst, meatballs or Bergisch blood sausage, it is a firm companion that leaves ordinary mustard far behind. It is also a wonderfully fruity alternative to usual medium-hot mustard with cold cuts for dinner.

For those who like to experiment: stir 1 teaspoon of pear mustard into a vinaigrette for lamb's lettuce with 50 g roasted walnuts and pear slices – a deep autumn salad is ready. We also love it stirred into a sauce for roast beef or as a glaze on baked cheese. You can find more delicacies from the Königskind kitchen in the spicy fig mustard, the fruity-spicy mango chutney and the berry-spicy redcurrant chutney. You can find more in our Königskind collection.

From the Königskind Delicacy Manufactory in Oberbergisches Land

The Königskind delicacy manufactory is Uwe König's passion project. What began as a hobby in his home kitchen in 2005, he expanded into self-employment in 2014 due to the growing demand for his mustards, chutneys and fruit spreads. To this day, all Königskind products are cooked by hand in manageable quantities in the kitchen under the Ziegenbusch in Wiehl in the Bergisches Land between Gummersbach and Nümbrecht, with the support of his wife Sabine.

Uwe König uses only regional, untreated fruits for his pear mustard and consistently avoids artificial flavors, colorings, preservatives and flavor enhancers. This is the Königskind philosophy: few, honest ingredients that still taste of fruit and the season in which they were picked. In addition to pear mustard, we also offer fig mustard and raspberry mustard from the same kitchen, as well as chutneys, fruit spreads and the legendary black walnuts – all products from the same signature.
