Questions about Fig mustard?

We are happy to help you with Königskind Genussmanufaktur.

The most popular mustard from the Königskind Gourmet Manufactory

Königskind Fig Mustard is a fruity, sweet mustard specialty made from 60% ripe figs and coarse mustard seeds, with a refined touch of spices – handmade by Uwe König in his small gourmet manufactory in the Oberberg region. It is the most popular mustard in the Königskind range and a harmonious blend of fruity sweetness and grainy mustard heat.

The Fig Mustard from Königskind is a fruity, sweet mustard specialty from the Oberberg region. Containing 60% ripe figs, sugar, coarse mustard seeds, vinegar, salt, and a delicate spice blend, only a few honest ingredients go into the jar – without artificial flavorings, colorings, preservatives, or flavor enhancers. Uwe König stirs the fig mustard by hand and gives the figs time to develop their full sweetness. The fig's sweetness enters into a harmonious bond with the coarse mustard seeds.

Sweet, grainy-spicy, and with a fine spice accent

Once opened, the warm aroma of dried figs rises – sweet, slightly caramelly, almost like fig bread in late summer, with the spicy base note of mustard seeds underneath. The color is a warm, dark amber with visible mustard seeds and fine bits of fig, capturing the essence of a hand-stirred mustard. The consistency is pleasantly thick and grainy – not a smooth Dijon, but a rustic, coarse mustard with bite.

On the tongue, the mustard begins with the full sweetness of figs, then come the mustard seeds that crunch between the teeth and slowly release their heat. The subtle spices provide an aromatic note, and the sweetness rounds everything off at the end. Unlike a classic medium-hot mustard, this is milder in heat but significantly fruitier and more complex – which is exactly what makes it the favorite mustard of many Königskind fans.

For cheese, cold cuts, and salad dressing

The Fig Mustard pairs with any type of cheese – making it the all-rounder of Königskind mustards. It tastes particularly lovely with a bold Manchego, a creamy Brie, a spicy Gorgonzola, or a piece of mature mountain cheese. A dollop on a cracker, a few walnuts, and a slice of pear, and you have a small appetizer with a Mediterranean flair.

It is just as essential for cold cuts in the evening: with a slice of Serrano, good Coppa, or air-dried salami, the fig sweetness provides a wonderful counterpoint to the salty meat. It is also a steadfast companion to pan-seared chicken, duck breast, or a hearty bratwurst from the grill. This is not a sharp mustard, but a fruity seasoning for meat classics.

In salads, it shows another side: stir 1 teaspoon of fig mustard into a vinaigrette made of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a hint of honey – resulting in a dressing for a lamb's lettuce salad with fried figs, fresh goat cheese, and 30g of toasted walnuts. Fig mustard also cuts a fine figure as a glaze on a roast ham or as an accompaniment to a cheese quiche. You can find more mustard specialties from the Königskind kitchen in the sweet-fruity Pear Mustard and the berry-spicy Raspberry Mustard, along with suitable companions like the fruity-spicy Mango Chutney. You can find more in our Königskind collection.

Königskind, handmade by the König family

The Königskind gourmet manufactory is the passion project of Uwe König and his wife Sabine. What began as a hobby in their home kitchen in 2005 was expanded by the couple into a full-time business in 2014 due to the growing demand for their mustards, chutneys, and fruit spreads. To this day, all Königskind products are cooked in the kitchen under the "Ziegenbusch" in Wiehl – all by hand, in manageable quantities, with the care that only a small family manufactory can provide.

Uwe König uses only ripe figs and coarse mustard seeds from Germany for his mustard and consistently avoids artificial flavorings, colorings, preservatives, and flavor enhancers. This is the Königskind philosophy: few, honest ingredients that still taste of fruit and their own seasoning. Besides the fig mustard, we also carry pear mustard, raspberry mustard, chutneys, fruit spreads, and the legendary black walnuts from the same kitchen – all products bearing the same signature.
