Manincor Mason 2021 - A Masterful Interplay of Terroir and Tradition

The Manincor Mason Pinot Noir 2021, an outstanding red wine from South Tyrol, presents itself in a luminous ruby red. The Pinot Noir grape variety is at the heart of this impressive wine, which is characterized by its velvety texture and the aromatic complexity of raspberries, cranberries, and roses. The Manincor Mason Pinot Noir 2021, grown on the sunny terraces of Mazzon in South Tyrol, showcases the true art of winemaking in one of the best microclimates for this grape variety.

Everything You Need to Know About This Single-Vineyard Pinot Noir

Excellent Conditions in Mazzon: The vines thrive on the sun-drenched, south-facing slope of Mazzon, located at an altitude of 400 to 450 meters. The 4-hectare site in Mazzon, locally known as "Mason," offers perfect conditions for Pinot Noir, whose grapes achieve optimal ripeness and aromatic expression there. The soil, a mix of sand, clay, and various types of rock such as dolomite, porphyry, gneiss, and granite, supports the development of the deep aromas that characterize this wine. The 2021 vintage is distinguished by a balance of physiological ripeness, sugar content, and acidity, making it particularly well-balanced.

Traditional and Natural Winemaking: Winemaking is carried out with a strong focus on natural processes. Each batch of grapes is harvested separately and spontaneously fermented in open oak barrels, utilizing the grapes' natural yeasts. The must remains in contact with the skins for two to three weeks, with the pomace cap submerged daily to ensure maximum aroma and tannin extraction. After fermentation, the wine matures for 16 months in barriques, 80% in second or third-use barrels and 20% new wood, to emphasize the character of the grapes without overpowering them.

Sustainability in Focus: Manincor places great importance on biodynamic cultivation and is a member of Respekt-BIODYN. The approach is clearly geared towards sustainability, including vegan winemaking and detailed waste management. Care is taken to ensure that all packaging materials are environmentally friendly and can be recycled correctly. The corks are sustainable, and the bottles are made from environmentally friendly green glass. The entire production reflects the winery's commitment to sustainability and quality awareness.

Sensory Characteristics: In the glass, the wine unfolds a complex bouquet of ripe red and black fruits. Aromas of berries, stone fruit, and roses dominate, followed by a hint of spices, licorice, and a subtle smoky or bacon note. On the palate, the Manincor Mason impresses with rich berry fruit and spice notes, accompanied by soft yet present tannins that provide excellent structure. The wine has a silky texture that makes the drinking experience particularly pleasant.

Enjoyment Recommendations: A delight for the senses, ideal for aging until the end of 2030, gaining complexity over time. Serve this outstanding Pinot Noir at a temperature of 16 to 18 °C, ideally in Burgundy glasses, to fully develop its aromas. In its youth, you can also decant this red wine. The wine is an excellent accompaniment to rich meat dishes with red meat or game, such as milk-fed lamb, duck breast with plum chutney, or pan-fried salmon with soy sauce. It is also an excellent partner for mature soft cheeses.

Manincor – South Tyrolean Wine Culture
