Piekfeine Haselnuss – Traditional Distilling Art from Bremen

The hazelnut is native to Europe and Asia Minor and is known for its high content of valuable oils. However, since the seeds contain neither sugar nor starch, alcohol cannot be produced from them through natural fermentation. For this specialty, the nuts, in roasted, peeled and crushed form, are steeped in neutral alcohol (macerated), whereby the full aroma of the fruit transfers into the alcohol.

This macerate is then distilled using the traditional and extremely elaborate rough and fine distillation process. The result is a hazelnut spirit that is particularly mild and at the same time wonderfully intense in its sensory perception. Approximately 1 to 2 kilograms of high-quality hazelnuts from the Black Sea coast are used to produce a single liter.

Special emphasis is placed on the flavor profile: to perfect the characteristic nougat note, chocolate and vanilla are also used in the percolation process. Due to this refinement, the product may not be referred to as "Geist" or "Brand" according to current legislation, but is listed as a spirit. For connoisseurs, it simply remains one of the best hazelnut schnapps on the market.
