Smoky Chipotle Ketchup with Smoked Chilies
Stokes Chipotle Ketchup is a smoky, spicy tomato ketchup featuring smoked chipotle chilies. Not a smooth, standard ketchup, and not just heat – it offers a deep, smoky flavor that brings to mind barbecue smoke and campfires.
Chipotle Ketchup by Stokes is a spicy tomato ketchup from Suffolk, England, seasoned with chipotle – that is, smoked jalapeños. Each 100 g of ketchup contains 121 g of sun-ripened Italian tomatoes, plus a spoonful of honey for a rounded sweetness. Gluten-free and lactose-free, smoky rather than merely hot. The spice level remains medium; the smoke takes center stage.
Smoky, savory, and deep instead of just hot
Chipotles are vine-ripened jalapeños dried over wood smoke – this gives the ketchup its dark, smoky depth.
Sugar and honey provide a warm sweetness underneath, spirit vinegar adds a tangy edge, and garlic and onion provide body. It glides over the tongue, smoky, savory, and velvety, without taking your breath away. It loves hearty, robust dishes and pairs well with anything cooked over charcoal and flame.
In the glass, it glows dark red and thick, with the adobo from the chipotle pods providing depth. Anyone who has ever stood by a barbecue fire will recognize this note immediately. If you like a fruity, spicy tone, choose the Chili Ketchup; if you are looking for smoke, this is the one for you.
Smoky depth for pulled pork and barbecue
The smoky Chipotle Ketchup goes well with steaks, burgers, hot dogs, fries, and fried potatoes.
With pulled pork, in tacos or quesadillas, it brings a Mexican flair to the table, and it shows off its dark sweetness on grilled corn or sweet potatoes. A spoonful in barbecue sauce or a pot of beans adds depth where there would otherwise only be heat. A plate of cheese nachos or a hearty breakfast with eggs and beans also benefits from the smoke. Stirred into mayonnaise, it becomes a quick chipotle mayo that wakes up wraps, bowls, and burgers.
Alongside the Chili Ketchup, this is the smoky version, and the mild Real Tomato Ketchup provides the classic for the kids. Further varieties are waiting for you in our ketchup section.
Cooked by Rick Sheepshanks in Suffolk
Since 2004, Stokes has been cooking in small batches in Suffolk, England, using select ingredients and no artificial flavorings.
For the Chipotle Ketchup, the jalapeños are harvested at the plantation once they reach a deep red ripeness and only then are they smoked – this is how the smoke gets into the pepper before it is even turned into a purée. In Rendlesham, Stokes gently simmers 121 g of tomatoes per 100 g of ketchup, sweetens with sugar and honey, and seasons with garlic and onion. Good taste needs this extra care, as Rick Sheepshanks has insisted from the very beginning.
Chipotle comes from Mexican cuisine, where smoked chilies have long provided depth – Stokes brings this idea to Suffolk. In 2014, the manufacturer began supplying over 50 countries, and in 2016, they were counted alongside Apple and Spotify as one of Britain's CoolBrands. After opening, store the 273 ml bottle in the refrigerator and consume the ketchup within about six weeks. More from Suffolk can be found in the Stokes assortment. Hats off.
