Light organic rosé from the Karl May winery in Rheinhessen
The 2024 RosaRot Rosé from the Karl May winery is a light organic rosé wine from Rheinhessen, a cuvée of four red grape varieties. Juicy, zesty, with notes of red berries. The perfect terrace wine for sunny hours.
RosaRot Rosé 2024 is a light, organic estate wine from the Karl May winery in Osthofen, Rheinhessen, crafted as a cuvée of Frühburgunder, Spätburgunder, Portugieser, and Dornfelder. It is fragrant with red berries and tastes juicy and easy-drinking. A wonderfully fresh rosé that brings summer into your glass.
Strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant
On the nose, it offers a luscious scent of red berries—strawberry, raspberry, and redcurrant—fresh and inviting like a basket full of summer fruit.
On the palate, the rosé is juicy, fruity, and zesty, with a medium body, good acidity balance, and moderate alcohol. At 11.5 percent alcohol, it remains pleasantly light; the subtle residual sugar gently softens the acidity and makes it particularly approachable. A wine that doesn't overthink, but simply brings joy, sip by sip. You don't need a special occasion; a sunny afternoon on the balcony is more than enough.
From salad and fish to a grilled platter
Served well-chilled at 8 to 10 degrees, the RosaRot is the perfect companion for balmy evenings, both indoors and out.
It pairs well with summer salads, light meat, and fish such as salmon or tuna, as well as anything off the grill. It is also a delight with vegetable quiche or mild cream cheese, and it needs no accompaniment at all when enjoyed solo on the terrace. Serve it in a white wine glass to let its fruity freshness truly shine. If you prefer your wine drier and bolder, try the Blutsbruder Rosé from the Karl May winery as a hearty alternative.
Four grape varieties at Fritz and Peter May's
The grapes for the RosaRot grow in various sites on sandy loess-loam soil, farmed organically for years without synthetic pesticides.
Four red grape varieties come together: Frühburgunder and Spätburgunder provide fine fruit, Portugieser adds juiciness, and Dornfelder contributes color. To ensure the grapes reach full maturity, Fritz and Peter May prune early, leaf-pluck the grape zone for more sun, and reduce yields through green harvesting. The grapes are harvested early and selectively by hand, often in multiple passes.
After a short period of skin contact, the grapes are pressed gently; the must is fermented spontaneously, kept on the lees for a long time, and matured in stainless steel tanks, which preserves the fresh fruit character.
A good rosé is not made on the side; it requires early-harvested, healthy grapes and a cool, steady fermentation, otherwise it loses its freshness. This exact care is poured into the RosaRot, even if it feels so light and carefree in the end. The May family has been making wine in its seventh generation since 1815, on around 35 hectares in Rheinhessen. You can find more in the Karl May winery range and among our rosé wines. Go ahead and toast—summer won't wait, and a good rosé certainly won't either.
