Berger Confiserie — Chocolate from Lofer
Berger Feinste Confiserie in Lofer, Salzburger Land, is a place of temptation for chocolate lovers from all over the world. In creative packaging, exquisite creations such as raspberry-curd cheese, whiskey-orange, or pomegranate Berger chocolate await the connoisseur. Founded in 1994 by Christine and Hubert Berger, the fine pralines and irresistible chocolates are now available in seven of their own stores in Austria and in the best delicatessens around the world. Berger Feinste Confiserie is organic certified and carries the Fairtrade seal. Despite its great success, the finest pralines and filled chocolate bars are still lovingly handcrafted in Lofer today.
Berger Chocolate — a success story
In 2019, Christine and Hubert Berger celebrated their 25th company anniversary together with their customers and employees. We first tasted Berger chocolate during a visit to Salzburg in 1998. Since 2002, we have carried Berger in our assortment - a true success story.
Organic Chocolate — a conscious decision
"Carefree enjoyment is our top priority," Hubert Berger tells us, "and that works best with organic cocoa." Organic certification was a very conscious decision for Berger to achieve even greater quality, even though the conversion of raw chocolate to organic took almost a year. In addition, the Berger family has their cocoa beans tested for hydrocarbon and cadmium residues.
Finest Confectionery — where the raw materials come from
Even though Berger sources its cocoa beans from far away Ghana and Togo, it places importance on regionality for other raw materials. The hay milk comes from Pinzgau-Milch, the spirits from Herzog and the Farthofer distillery, and herbs from the regional association for Traditional European Healing.
Fairtrade cocoa — thinking sustainably
Confiserie Berger has been Fair Trade certified since 2016 and only processes cocoa from sustainable cultivation. The Berger family prefers long-term trade relationships and supports cocoa farmers, especially in Ghana and Togo. Some partners from Togo have already visited Lofer to see the Berger manufactory and to see and taste with their own eyes what is made from their cocoa beans.
Berger Confiserie — a team effort
The Confiserie is a true family business, founded over 25 years ago by the couple Hubert and Christine Berger. The well-coordinated management team has clearly defined areas of responsibility within the company, so that everyone has their own decision-making freedom. It is important to them to value their employees, give them responsibility and trust them. Almost 100 employees work together as a team for the success of the company. Since 2010, this also includes 4 employees with disabilities. As a trained confectioner, Herbert Huber passes on his passion for the craft to the next generation in a vocational school class for candy and confectioners. The Bergers' daughter also shares this passion and has already completed a patisserie apprenticeship in France. The doors are also open to the two brothers if they wish.
