The sardines with orange from La Perle des Dieux, known in French as “Sardines à l'huile de colza et à l'orange tranchée,” are sardines in mild rapeseed oil with slices of fresh orange. A fruity, fresh recipe where the sea and the south come together.

Sardines with orange are flavored sardines from the La Perle des Dieux cannery in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in the Vendée, on the French Atlantic coast south of Brittany. Fish from the north meets the orange, the fruit of the south – preserved in mild rapeseed oil with nothing more than salt.

Fruity, fresh, with a delicate sweetness

The orange adds its fruity freshness and a subtle sweetness that lightens the richness of the fish.

The mild rapeseed oil remains in the background, allowing the fish and fruit to speak for themselves. Fruity, fresh, mild – a sardine that tastes of sunshine and the south.

On bread, in a salad, with fennel

Their fruity freshness makes them perfect for light pairings: on bread, over a fennel salad, or with leafy salads containing nuts.

La Perle des Dieux is arguably the most feminine cannery in the industry – founded in 2005 by Claudie Vardelle and Philippe Gendreau in the Vendée.

Philippe's family has been canning fish for four generations; Claudie brought a flair for beauty and commissioned artists to design the lids. The freshly caught sardines are cleaned and packed by hand.
