AquaRosa is a caffeine-free organic fruit tea based on East African hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa). It is complemented by apple, grapes, blackberry leaves, elderberry, and a quintet of red berries—strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackcurrant, and elderberry. Sold loose in a 100g tin, from organic farming. Bright pink in the cup, tart and fruity, equally fine served hot or cold.

The AquaRosa by Kusmi Tea is not a tea in the botanical sense, but an organic fruit infusion with hibiscus as the main ingredient. It is inspired by "thé rose d'Abyssinie," the pink tea from ancient Abyssinia (modern-day Ethiopia), where hibiscus is traditionally drunk as a thirst quencher. In Mexico, this same infusion is known as Flor de Jamaica. Alongside the hibiscus, apple, grapes, blackberry leaves, elderberry, and a quintet of red berries add fruity depth. Naturally caffeine-free, it can be enjoyed at any time of day.

Bright pink infusion, fruity and tart with berry depth

When you open the tin, the tea reveals itself as a colorful landscape of blossoms: dark red, dried hibiscus calyces dominate, interspersed with light apple pieces, dark grapes and elderberries, green blackberry leaves, and the occasional small piece of berry. The scent is summery and herbal, with that tart, fruity edge that distinguishes hibiscus from all other berries.

In the cup, AquaRosa glows in a vibrant pink-red, almost like a rosé wine or raspberry syrup. The first sip is zesty and tart, with the hibiscus immediately providing its characteristic freshness, reminiscent of cranberry juice. This is layered with a velvety berry sweetness from the red fruits; the apple provides roundness, while the blackberry leaves add a subtle vegetal depth. Tart, fruity, and light—a tea that opens the palate and truly quenches thirst.

Enjoy cold in a glass in summer or as a fruity aperitif before a meal

AquaRosa is the summer tea in the Kusmi range. Served hot, it pairs well with a fruity breakfast featuring berry pancakes, yogurt bowls with fresh raspberries, or quark-based desserts. Served cold in a carafe with ice cubes, it becomes a terrace classic: a glowing pink carafe on the garden table, a few berries for decoration, and summer has arrived. It also makes a great non-alcoholic aperitif—served in a red wine glass with a slice of orange and ice, it feels almost like a fruity vermouth.

AquaRosa is best enjoyed plain—the natural berry sweetness makes sugar unnecessary. A squeeze of lime or a dash of elderflower syrup highlights the fruitiness, while a small splash of apple juice makes it more kid-friendly. For a pot, use about 2 tablespoons of fruit tea per liter, pour 95°C hot water over it, and steep for 5 minutes. For iced tea: steep the same infusion for 7 minutes, then pour over ice cubes.

Hibiscus from Abyssinia crafted with Parisian expertise

Hibiscus sabdariffa, also known as African mallow, is native to West Africa and is now grown in parts of East Africa, Mexico, and other tropical countries. The bright red calyces are harvested after flowering and dried—this creates the characteristic tart infusion known in Ethiopia as "Karkadé" and in Mexico as "Flor de Jamaica." AquaRosa picks up on this ancient tradition and combines it with European garden fruits to create a modern fruit infusion.

The story of Kusmi Tea begins in 1867 in Saint Petersburg, where 21-year-old Pavel Mikhailovich Kousmichoff opened his own tea house. After the Russian Revolution, the family fled to Paris in 1917. In addition to classic black and green teas, the company now maintains a range of caffeine-free fruit teas and herbal infusions—for summer enjoyment, for the evening, and for anyone who prefers to avoid caffeine.
