Lovely Morning by Kusmi Tea is an organic green tea with yerba mate and a citrus trio of grapefruit, lemon, and orange. The blend comes from the French tea house Kusmi Tea, which has its roots in St. Petersburg in 1867 and has been based in Paris since 1917. The recipe is rounded off with guarana and calendula blossoms. A green tea with theine, which appears in a bright, translucent yellow-green in the cup and unfolds a zesty citrus scent. Light yellow infusion, zesty with grapefruit and lemon

As soon as you open the tin, a bright aroma fills your nose: grapefruit takes the lead, flanked by lemon and orange, followed by the grassy mate note and the clear freshness of the green tea. The loose leaves are a mixture of light green green tea leaves and slightly coarser, lightly broken mate pieces. Orange calendula blossoms shine through. A lively, non-uniform leaf structure that visually resembles morning.

In the cup, Lovely Morning appears in a light yellow-green, translucent like a young white wine. The first sip is zesty: grapefruit leads with its characteristic slightly bitter edge, lemon brings acidity, orange soft sweetness.

The mate adds a herbal depth, reminiscent of freshly cut grass, while the green tea carries the whole with its clear freshness. Three notes alternate in the aftertaste: the citrus freshness at first, the mate-grassiness in the middle, and the green tea as a calm final note.

How do I prepare Lovely Morning correctly?

The short answer: 80 °C hot water, steep for 3 to 4 minutes. For a pot, you'll need about two tablespoons of loose tea per liter. You should not use boiling water, as the green tea leaves release tannins at 100 °C and the mixture will become bitter.

If you don't have a kettle with temperature selection: boil vigorously, leave the lid off, let it cool for about five minutes – then the 80 °C will be reached.

We prefer the tea plain, without sugar. The citrus fruits bring enough of their own aroma that no sweetness is missing. An additional splash of fresh lemon juice can further enhance the grapefruit edge. In summer, the infusion becomes iced tea: brew twice as strong, pour over ice cubes, and serve with a slice of grapefruit or orange.

Three sources of theine are in the blend: green tea, yerba mate leaves, and guarana. The theine is released more slowly from the infusion than caffeine in coffee because it is bound to tannins in tea. Those who are sensitive to caffeine should steep the tea for a shorter time (1–2 minutes) or switch to a pure rooibos tea like Rooibos Vanilla.

Kusmi Tea, the Parisian tea house with Russian roots

The history of Kusmi Tea begins in 1867 in Saint Petersburg, where Pavel Mikhailovich Kousmichoff opened his own tea house. Over the decades, the house grew into an international tea trading empire and supplied, among others, the Russian imperial court. In 1917, the revolution forced the family to flee, and they settled in Paris. The house continues to exist there today as an independent manufactory – not as a museum, but as an active recipe forge that regularly develops new blends.

Since 2003, Kusmi Tea has belonged to the Orebi family, who have consistently modernized the house: old classics like Anastasia and Prince Wladimir have been carefully developed further, and new lines like the mate-based morning teas have been added. Since 2017, almost all blends have been organically grown. The manufactory is located in Le Havre on the Atlantic coast, from where the teas are filled into the iconic round metal tins and shipped worldwide.

Lovely Morning is one of Kusmi's younger creations. It shows the modern face of the house: open to new ingredients like yerba mate and guarana, but composed with the accustomed Kusmi craftsmanship.
