Rooibos Almond is a caffeine-free organic herbal infusion made from South African rooibos, enhanced with natural almond flavor. Predominantly rooibos, with almond and stone fruit flavor. Loose in a 100g tin, organically grown. Creamy, nutty, with a marzipan depth – a childhood tea reminiscent of homemade almond pastries.

Rooibos Almond by Kusmi Tea is the nutty sibling of Rooibos Vanilla. Its base is organic rooibos from South Africa, refined with natural almond flavor and a hint of stone fruit flavor that highlights the typical bitter almond note. The infusion evokes marzipan, amaretto, and homemade almond pastries – the French at Kusmi lovingly call it “amande de Proust,” a tribute to Marcel Proust's famous madeleine of memory. Naturally caffeine-free, low in tannins, suitable for any time of day.

Red-brown infusion, creamy-nutty with marzipan warmth

As soon as you open the tin, the almond scent fills the room: warm, sweetish, with that slight bitter almond note reminiscent of freshly baked cookies. The rooibos needles are fine and red-brown, evenly mixed with the flavorings – visually, Rooibos Almond barely differs from Rooibos Vanilla, but the scent is distinctly different.

In the cup, Rooibos Almond reveals a strong reddish-brown color. The first sip is soft, round, with the characteristic honey base note of rooibos, topped with the creamy sweetness of almond. In the second sip, the marzipan emerges: subtle, not overpowering, more as a memory than a dominant flavor. The slight bitter almond note lingers in the finish, preventing the tea from being overly sweet. Warm, comforting, almost like a liquid almond croissant.

In the afternoon with almond pastries or in the evening as a dessert substitute

Rooibos Almond is the dessert tea among Kusmi's rooibos varieties. It pairs well with almond crescents, Florentines, and Bethmännchen during Advent, with macarons and frangipane tarts, with a slice of cheesecake with almond crusts, or with an almond croissant on Sunday morning. Even when drunk alone, it acts like a small dessert: sweet enough to satisfy the craving for something sweet.

Rooibos Almond tastes best plain – the flavors are subtle enough to make sugar superfluous. With a splash of cream or oat milk, it becomes a creamy winter treat. As an iced tea in summer, it also surprises with an unusual almond dimension reminiscent of horchata or almond milk.

For a pot, you'll need about 2 tablespoons of rooibos per liter, steeped with 90°C hot water for 5 minutes. As with its vanilla sibling: rooibos does not become bitter, even if you let it steep longer.

Rooibos from South Africa in Parisian interpretation

Rooibos grows exclusively in the Cederberg Mountains north of Cape Town. The plant is called Aspalathus linearis in Latin and belongs to the acacia family – a shrub with needle-like leaves that can grow up to two meters tall. It is harvested from January to March during the South African high summer; the branches are cut by hand, chopped, fermented, and sun-dried.

At Kusmi Tea, the rooibos leaves are blended with natural almond flavors in the Parisian factory in Le Havre.
