Rooibos Almond is a caffeine-free organic herbal infusion made from South African redbush, refined with natural almond aroma. Predominantly rooibos, with added almond and stone fruit notes. The Rooibos Almond by Kusmi Tea is the nutty sibling of Rooibos Vanilla. The base is organic rooibos from South Africa, refined with natural almond aroma and a hint of stone fruit aroma, which highlights the typical bitter almond note. The infusion is reminiscent of marzipan, amaretto, and homemade almond pastries – the French at Kusmi affectionately call it an "amande de Proust," an homage to Marcel Proust’s famous madeleine of memory. Naturally caffeine-free, low in tannins, and suitable for any time of day.

Red-brown infusion, creamy and nutty with marzipan-like warmth

As soon as you open the tin, the scent of almond drifts through the room: warm, sweet, with that slight bitter almond edge reminiscent of freshly baked cookies. The rooibos needles are fine and reddish-brown, evenly blended with the aromatic components – visually, the Rooibos Almond hardly differs from the Rooibos Vanilla, but the aroma is distinctly different.

In the cup, the Rooibos Almond displays a rich reddish-brown. The first sip is soft and round, with the characteristic honey base note of rooibos, followed by the creamy sweetness of almond. On the second sip, the marzipan emerges: subtle, not overpowering, more of a memory than a dominant flavor. The finish is marked by a lingering, light bitter almond note that keeps the tea from being overly sweet. Warm, cozy, almost like a liquid almond crescent cookie.

In the afternoon with almond pastries or in the evening as a dessert alternative

The Rooibos Almond is the dessert tea among the Kusmi rooibos selection. It pairs perfectly with almond crescents, Florentines, and Bethmännchen cookies during the Advent season, with macaroons and frangipane tarts, a slice of cheesecake with an almond crust, or an almond croissant on a Sunday morning. Even enjoyed on its own, it acts like a small dessert: sweet enough that the craving for something sugary vanishes.

Rooibos Almond tastes best pure – the aromas are delicate enough to make sugar unnecessary. A splash of cream or oat milk transforms it into a creamy winter indulgence. Even as iced tea in the summer, it surprises with an unusual almond dimension reminiscent of horchata or almond milk.

You will need about 2 tablespoons of rooibos per liter for a pot, steeped with 90°C hot water for 5 minutes. As with its vanilla sibling, the rule is: rooibos does not get bitter, even if you let it steep for longer.

Rooibos from South Africa in a Parisian interpretation

Rooibos grows exclusively in the Cederberg Mountains north of Cape Town. The plant is known in Latin as Aspalathus linearis and belongs to the acacia family – a shrub with needle-like leaves that grows up to two meters high. Harvesting takes place from January to March during the South African midsummer; the branches are cut by hand, chopped, fermented, and sun-dried.

At Kusmi Tea, the rooibos leaves are blended with natural almond aromas at their Parisian manufacturing facility in Le Havre. Founded in 1867 by Pavel Mikhailovich Kousmichoff in Saint Petersburg and relocated to Paris in 1917, the company maintains a range of caffeine-free infusions alongside its classic Russian blends.
