Morning Tea N° 24 by Kusmi Tea, internationally known as Russian Morning N°24, is the brand's classic Russian morning blend. An artful composition of three black teas: Grand Yunnan from China with subtle notes, a full-bodied organic Ceylon with chocolate undertones, and a strong Assam that grounds the whole. A house blend that stands in the tradition of Russian tea merchants, who combined teas from East and West into their own creations as early as the 19th century.

Mahogany-colored, chocolatey-malty with subtle depth

Upon opening the tin, a complex aroma rises: warm maltiness from the Assam, fruity brightness from the Ceylon, gentle smoky notes from the Yunnan. The leaves are dark and slightly varied – a sign of the three different origins intertwined here: roasted, balanced, polyphonic.

In the cup, Morning Tea N° 24 appears in a deep mahogany. The first sip is full-bodied and round, the Yunnan note brings an unexpected chocolatey depth, the Ceylon adds fruity accents with slight cocoa undertones, and the Assam provides the necessary strength to start the day. In the morning with frothed milk or with a Russian breakfast

Morning Tea N° 24 is the most complex morning tea in the Kusmi range. It pairs well with a classic Russian breakfast of blinis and sour cream, with pirozhki and scrambled eggs, as well as with Western porridge, a croissant with honey, or bread and butter with jam. As a tea latte with frothed milk, it particularly develops the chocolate notes of the Ceylon and becomes a gentle morning indulgence.

Drank plain, you experience the three tea varieties most clearly. A splash of cold milk is traditional and highlights the malty sweetness. If desired, you can add a spoon of honey or a dollop of Russian preserves (conserved fruits as an accompaniment, not in the tea) – this makes it a true chai in the style of Russian tea houses. You'll need about 2 tablespoons of loose tea per liter for a pot, steeped with 90°C hot water, for 3 to 5 minutes.

Pavel Kousmichoff and the Russian morning blends

The history of Kusmi Tea begins in 1867 in Saint Petersburg, where 21-year-old Pavel Mikhailovich Kousmichoff opens his own tea house. Among the first recipes are the characterful Russian morning blends, which weave black teas from China, Ceylon, and India into unique creations – a tradition that lives on in Morning Tea N° 24 to this day. By the early 20th century, the house operates 53 tea shops across Russia.

After the Russian Revolution, the family flees to Paris in 1917, where Kusmi Tea is still based today. The path led via London, the international tea trade metropolis, to which the young Viatcheslav Kousmichoff had been sent as a tea specialist in 1907.
