Boost by Kusmi Tea, the spicy green tea mate blend with cinnamon, ginger & cardamom

Boost is a modern Kusmi creation: mate and green tea as a base, refined with a warm spice trio of ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom. Caffeinated by green tea and mate. Loose leaf in a 100g tin, in the characteristic metal tin. Warm, spicy, with a strong depth of spice.

The Boost from Kusmi Tea is a green tea mate composition that combines the South American mate ritual with the spice culture of Asia. The base is Yerba Mate from South America, complemented by green tea.

Layered on top is a spice trio of ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom – the same family that plays a leading role in Indian Chai. Natural spice aromas round out the blend. An organic infusion for all who know and love mate, but would like something spicy to go with it.

Golden-yellow infusion, spicy-warm with a cardamom-strong depth

Upon opening the tin, the scent of cinnamon immediately dominates, followed by the characteristic herbaceous-bitter note of mate, along with the warming spiciness of ginger and the citrusy depth of cardamom. Visible are the light green mate sticks, interspersed with darker green tea leaves, lighter cinnamon bark splinters, ginger pieces, and the characteristic cardamom pods.

In the cup, the tea appears in a golden-yellow hue, with a slight greenish tint. The first sip is full-bodied and spicy, the mate provides the vegetal-herbaceous foundation, the green tea brings freshness, the cinnamon warms, and the ginger provides a gentle spiciness.

In the middle, the cardamom opens up with its fresh, citrusy notes, while the ginger maintains the warmth. Spicy, warm, strong – a tea that is built close to classic chai, but gets a different, South American signature through the mate.

In the morning as a chai alternative or after a meal

Boost is the mate tea for those who find classic mate too bitter and are looking for a milder, spiced version. It pairs well with a breakfast of oat porridge and cinnamon, with banana nut bread, or with spelt waffles with applesauce. After a meal, with lentil curries or oriental cuisine, it can also take on the classic chai role. Due to the caffeine content of mate and green tea, it is intended more for morning and afternoon, less for evening.

The tea tastes best pure. If you want to turn it into a chai latte, prepare it as usual and then add equal parts hot frothed milk (or oat, almond, soy milk) – a teaspoon of honey, and the Boost Latte is ready. You need about 2 tablespoons of loose tea per liter for a pot, steeped with 85°C hot water for 3 to 4 minutes.

Those who prefer a mate-green tea blend with a citrus character instead of spices will find a lighter, fruitier alternative in Lovely Morning. For the grapefruit character, reach for Expure Addict. Those who prefer the spice component in the black tea register will find it in Tchai of the Tiger.

The Kusmi Trio of Expure Addict, Boost, and Sweet Love

In our assortment, Boost forms an independent trio of modern compositions with two other Kusmi creations: Expure Addict with grapefruit, mate, and guarana, and Sweet Love, the sweet-spicy black tea with pink pepper. All three come from the same Kusmi line of modern tea creations – each with its own character: Boost warm and spice-heavy, Expure Addict sparkling-grapefruit, Sweet Love sweet-spicy and peppery. Those who know one of the three blends will find exciting counterparts in the other sisters.

Mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is an evergreen shrub from the holly family and grows in South America – especially in Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. Traditionally, it is drunk from a hollowed-out gourd calabash with a filtering metal straw, the bombilla. In South America, mate is a national symbol that goes far beyond tea drinking.

The history of Kusmi Tea begins in 1867 in Saint Petersburg, where 21-year-old Pavel Mikhailovich Kousmichoff opened his own tea house. After the Russian Revolution, the family fled to Paris in 1917. Since 2017, almost all teas are organically grown, bottled at the manufactory in Le Havre. In our Kusmi Tea collection, you will find an overview of all blends.
