Boost is a modern Kusmi creation: a base of mate and green tea, refined with a warm trio of spices: ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom. Contains caffeine from green tea and mate. Loose in a 100g tin, in the characteristic metal canister. Warm, spicy, with a robust depth of spice.

Boost from Kusmi Tea is a green tea and mate composition that combines the South American mate ritual with the spice culture of Asia. The base is South American yerba mate, complemented by green tea.

Layered on top is a trio of spices consisting of ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom—the same family that plays the leading role in Indian chai. Natural spice aromas round off the blend. An organic infusion for those who know and enjoy mate but would like something spicy to go with it.

Golden yellow infusion, spicy and warm with a bold cardamom depth

Upon opening the tin, the scent of cinnamon is immediately dominant, followed by the characteristic herbal, tart tone of the mate, accompanied by the warming heat of ginger and the lemony depth of cardamom. You can see the light green mate stems, interspersed with darker green tea leaves, lighter cinnamon bark splinters, pieces of ginger, and the characteristic cardamom pods.

In the cup, the tea displays a golden yellow hue with a slightly greenish tint. The first sip is full-bodied and spicy; the mate provides the herbal, tart foundation, the green tea adds freshness, the cinnamon warms, and the ginger provides a gentle heat.

In the middle notes, the cardamom opens up with its fresh, lemony notes, while the ginger maintains the warmth. Spicy, warm, robust—a tea built close to a classic chai, but with a different, South American signature thanks to the mate.

In the morning as a chai alternative or after a meal

Boost is the mate tea for everyone who finds classic mate too tart and is looking for a milder, spiced version. It pairs well with breakfast porridge with cinnamon, banana nut bread, or spelt waffles with applesauce. It can also take on the classic chai role after a meal alongside lentil curries or oriental cuisine. Due to the caffeine content from the mate and green tea, it is intended more for the morning and afternoon, less for the evening.

The tea tastes best pure. If you want to turn it into a chai latte, prepare it as usual and then add equal parts hot frothed milk (or oat, almond, or soy milk)—add a teaspoon of honey, and your Boost Latte is ready. For a pot, you need about 2 tablespoons of loose tea per liter, steeped in 85 °C water for 3 to 4 minutes.

Mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is an evergreen shrub from the holly family and grows in South America—primarily in Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. It is traditionally drunk from a hollowed-out pumpkin gourd with a filtering metal straw called a bombilla. In South America, mate is a national symbol that goes far beyond just drinking tea.

The story of Kusmi Tea began in 1867 in Saint Petersburg, where 21-year-old Pavel Mikhailovich Kousmichoff opened his own tea house. After the Russian Revolution, the family fled to Paris in 1917.
